About the Role
The General Counsel and Compliance Officer at the company is a key leadership role with a primary focus on maintaining the organization's business integrity and ensuring adherence to all relevant statutes, regulations, and policies. This includes overseeing the alignment of organizational behavior with a code of conduct, promoting a culture of legal and ethical compliance, and advising senior management and the board of directors on related issues. The successful candidate will have the authority to review all pertinent documents and information, from patient records to third-party arrangements, and will be responsible for the design and coordination of internal investigations and implementation of corrective actions. Collaboration with various departments, including legal and compliance, is essential, as is the ability to provide counsel on operational issues and to stay abreast of new legislation affecting the company's operations. Applicants for this role must possess a JD and a California Bar License, with a minimum of 5 years' experience in healthcare law, preferably with a focus on compliance. The position requires a high degree of credibility, independence, and autonomy, as well as strong written and verbal communication skills, a dependable work ethic, and the ability to analyze information for legal recommendations. The General Counsel and Compliance Officer will also be involved in maintaining the licensure of all facilities and clinics, serving on the patient grievance committee, and ensuring that the company's processes confirm the eligibility of its staff to participate in federal or state health care programs. Additionally, the role involves preparing for and participating in public board meetings, standardizing the contracting process, and providing guidance on HIPAA and other medical information confidentiality laws.
