Job Description
SUPERVISOR: Head Start Director
SUPERVISES: None
EXEMPTION STATUS: Non-Exempt
POSITION SUMMARY: The Health Specialist is responsible for assisting in and ensuring high quality health services of the Health Component are provided within ECKAN’s service area. Collaborate with Coordinators to ensure an integrated balance of Head Start services as per the program work plans to meet Head Start Performance Standards. Additionally, must have knowledge of and support the Agency’s mission, vision and code of ethics and strategic plan for helping people, changing lives. Must comply with drug and alcohol free workplace policy. Position contingent upon continued program funding. Hiring subject to Policy Council approval. Head Start parents will be given preference.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Ensure 45 and 90-day health and nutrition requirements are met
- Monitor medical, dental and nutrition requirements are up to date
- Write Health/Nutrition Care Plans
- Monitor systems for medication administration
- Implement bi-annual Head Start Health Advisory Committee meetings
- Conduct Early Head Start postpartum visits
- Coordinate and monitor content area by regular monthly site visits
- Review and revise content area work plans annually
- Use MyHeadstart to track data
- Provide new employee orientation when needed
- Maintain CPR/ First Aid Trainer Certification
- Assist with other duties as assigned by supervisor
- Monitor, Implement and evaluate CACFP Program
- Attend staff meetings, workshops, and in-service training provided by the agency.
- Support the ECKAN code of ethical conduct.
- Maintain confidentiality of all agency information.
- Maintain accurate and up to date records per policies and procedures.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
· Knowledgeable of Head Start rules and regulations
· LPN/RN preferred Bachelor’s Degree in Health and Nutrition, Public Health, Community Nutrition, or a related field.
· Three years’ professional work experience with a record of progressive administrative responsibility and licensing.
· Be able to pass required KBI, background, and health tests.
· Good written and oral communication skills.
· Must be able to participate in daily kneeling, stooping, bending, and sitting on the floor, and occasionally lifting up to 40 pounds.
· Possess a valid driver’s license and comply with ECKAN insurance standards, as applicable.
· General office and computer skills.
