POSITION SUMMARY
This position performs registration and ensures information is accurately entered into the laboratory systems to support effective specimen processing, billing and result distribution. Contributes to the effective operation of clerical and customer support functions within the laboratory by verifying patient information ensuring accurate and timely delivery of results and responding to customer inquiries and requests. Requires knowledge of both registration functions and systems as well as basic knowledge of laboratory testing.

Performs all functions according to established policies, procedures, regulatory and accreditation requirements, as well as applicable professional standards.

CORE FUNCTIONS
 

1. Enters and successfully completes the full registration process, double checks, requisition labeling and scanning. Order follow-up and basic office functions including but not limited to printing labels and maintaining office equipment. Performs additional duties that may include monitoring pending logs, completing critical call verification, resulting and distribution of send-out tests.

2.  Focuses on quality by ensuring that all work performed is accurate and complete. Maintains familiarity with departmental procedures. Meets or exceeds department quality performance metrics on all work performed. Reviews quick registrations of others when applicable and verifies patient demographics. Ensures that all reports are accurately scanned into applicable EMR. Performs receptionist and clerical duties as necessary to support operational needs of laboratory departments.

3.  Participates in departmental financial monitoring and improvement. Supports waste reduction and expense reduction programs. Assists supervisor and manager in monitoring and controlling expenses throughout the year. May also be assist with new hire training under the direction of the management.

4.  Meets departmental standards for productivity as currently defined.   Demonstrates a high level of customer service by answering, routing and documenting incoming calls, faxes and emails in an accurate and timely manner. Ensures that pertinent information is shared with physicians, patients, visitors, coworkers and department management. Prioritizes tasks, works under pressure to meet deadlines and to accommodate a fluctuating workload. Maintains adequate level of office supplies and appropriate requisitions- reorders when necessary.

5. Communicates courteously and professionally with internal and external customers. Interacts with co-workers with an emphasis on teamwork and a focus on customer service.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma/GED or equivalent working knowledge.

  • One (1) year experience in customer service and/or financial transactions.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Previous laboratory registration and/or billing experience.

  • Additional related education and/or experience.
