We are seeking a qualified Sign Language Interpreter to join our team. As a Sign Language Interpreter, you will play a crucial role in facilitating communication between individuals who are deaf or hard of hearing and those who can hear. Your responsibilities will include accurately interpreting spoken language into sign language and vice versa in various settings such as meetings, conferences, classrooms, medical appointments, and social events. You will need to possess strong interpersonal skills, cultural sensitivity, and the ability to maintain confidentiality.
Job Description:

• Ephrata, WA
• Full Time
• 24/25 School Year

Responsibilities:

• Interpret spoken language into sign language and vice versa accurately and effectively.
• Ensure clear communication between deaf or hard of hearing individuals and hearing individuals in various settings.
• Adapt interpreting style and vocabulary to match the preferences and needs of the individuals involved.
• Remain impartial and maintain confidentiality during all interpreting assignments.
• Stay updated on relevant terminology and industry standards to ensure high-quality interpretation services.
• Collaborate with clients, colleagues, and other professionals to provide comprehensive support.

Requirements:

• Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) or other relevant sign language(s).
• Certification or licensure as a Sign Language Interpreter (e.g., RID certification).
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Cultural competency and sensitivity towards the deaf and hard of hearing community.
• Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
• Flexibility to work in various settings and adapt to different communication styles.
• Previous experience as a Sign Language Interpreter preferred but not required.
