At Wegmans, our Sales and Property Tax Manager oversees compliance with all state and local laws for all jurisdictions Wegmans operates. You will do this by providing expertise and leadership to ensure accuracy and conformity, while mitigating tax impact. In this role you will manage Sales and Property tax audits with the goal of minimizing adjustments. Additionally, you will evaluate the real and personal property assessment for all corporate real estate and represent Wegmans in negotiation with tax assessors as needed.

What will I do?

  • Manage and develop team of employees, engage in meaningful conversations, build trusted relationships and provide the resources, feedback, and development opportunities they need to be successful 
  • Maintain solid, up to date knowledge of Sales and Property tax laws in all jurisdictions Wegmans operates, monitor new and proposed legislation, determine potential impact to Wegmans, and communicate and present updates to senior company management
  • Work cross functionally throughout Wegmans to provide subject matter expertise and leadership and ensure Wegmans remains in compliance with tax laws for products sold and all purchases
  • Think strategically, identify opportunities and drive process to achieve minimum tax assessments and receive all credits and exemptions allowed by law
  • Collaborate with internal and external business partners and advisors to evaluate proposed business initiatives with a focus on tax implications and risk
  • Manage Sales and Property tax audit process and subsequent appeals when necessary negotiates with tax authority
  • Use expertise and knowledge to drive innovation internally and externally to improve process and ensure compliance
  • Oversee and review real and personal property assessments for all corporate real estate and manage appeals process for reassessment, where appropriate
  • Represent Wegmans in negotiations and settlements with local and state tax authorities
  • Identify and apply for tax abatements from state and local jurisdictions, where available

Required Qualifications

  • 7 or more years of sales/property tax experience; successfully managing state tax audits
  • 5 or more years Real and personal property experience
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field
  • Leadership experience, including the ability to quickly build credibility, influence, and make recommendations across business units
  • Ability to think creatively when new business changes or laws are proposed to enable operations to remain cutting edge while minimizing the tax exposure
  • Verbal and written communication skills
  • Advanced technical research skills
  • Microsoft Office skills
