Job Title: Sr. Specialist, Test Data Systems Engineer

Job Location: Orange, VA

Job Schedule: 9/80, every other Friday off. 7:30 am – 5:00 pm

 

We are seeking a Sr. Specialist, Test Data Systems Engineer to join the team at our Culpeper, VA site.

 

Reporting directly to the Manager, Test Engineering, this position will focus on designing and implementing data acquisition and controls systems while working in a test operations environment supporting production and development rocket motor and air-breathing propulsion test programs. 

 

Working under general supervision, the Sr. Specialist, Test Data Systems Engineer will:

30% - Maintain and upgrade test facility data acquisition and control systems.

20% - Define, coordinate, and execute instrumentation, data, and control systems integration to meet test requirements. 

20% - Conduct data reduction and analysis, video processing, data file management, and report distribution.

20% - Perform, oversee and support test operations, instrumentation calibration and setup, electrical/controls/PLC setup and/or programming, including control room console operation.

10% - Prepare technical documentation, including software logs, operational procedures, electrical schematics, and support test review processes. 

 

Requires a Bachelor of Science degree in an appropriate discipline (electrical, aerospace, or mechanical engineering, computer science, or a related discipline) along with six (6) years of directly related experience (or an equivalent combination of education and experience). Strong written and verbal communication skills; strength in teaming and collaboration in a diverse work environment.

Qualified candidates must be knowledgeable of engineering principles and should have experience with an emphasis on the following:

  • Hands-on development, integration, operation and troubleshooting of instrumentation, signal conditioning, data acquisition systems, computer networking and computer operating systems (Windows & QNX)
    • Including Classified data system requirements, setup, and maintenance
  • Knowledge of instrumentation sensors and signal conditioning (Strain gage, pressure, force, temperature, flow, accelerometer, etc.)
  • Familiarity with calibration principles and industry calibration standards
  • Understanding of network configurations and other IT fundamentals
  • Ability to set up and maintain digital video recording equipment and edit video files
  • Experience with data reduction & review to verify instrumentation health and performance
  • Proficiency with electrical diagnostic equipment (DMM, oscilloscope, etc.)
  • Understanding of computers and programming languages:
    • PLC (Ladder logic, Allen Bradley, etc.)
    • LabVIEW
    • C/C++ programming
    • Matlab/Simulink
  • Ability to specify and fabricate electronic cabling/wiring for interface between data systems and sensors
  • Experience generating operational procedures, data reports, electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, software configuration files and other technical documents
