Materials (Shipping - Receiving) Manager

We are seeking an experienced Materials Manager to manage the inventory and purchasing procedures of materials and other supplies used in our company.

Job Duties

Materials Managers spend a significant amount of time communicating with current vendors and potential future suppliers. They perform research to determine their prices, material quality and the reliability of their shipment process. They review pricing histories and financial reports to assess the financial risk factors of working with various vendors and decide which suppliers can meet the company’s short and long-term needs.

Materials Managers also field issues related to product quality and delivery, process and create quality assurance standards.

They meet with facility staff about delivery goals and track supply needs compared to available materials.

Job Description

Materials Manager manages the materials and inventory planning functions.

Provides support to production scheduling on all material flow issues to meet production schedules and customer requirements.

Interfaces with product line coordinators on the planning and forecasting of customer orders to meet shipments. Manages staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs.

True first level manager.

Ensures that project / department milestones and goals are met while adhering to approved budgets with an end goal to ensure our operation always has an adequate flow of the material needed; and finished product shipped to the customer.

Responsibilities

• Research potential vendors and negotiate prices
• Work with Management to identify supply needs
• Recommend Solutions to existing processes to reduce waste and increase quantity
• Record and assess all materials quality, movement, and expenditure
• Manage the distribution of supplies in the organization
• Monitor inventory levels and access to the material
• Collaborate with management to plan forecasting models
• Prepare and file detailed records on procurement activity, quantity, and vendors
• Design and maintain department budgets

• Knowledge of Business Plan Goals and Objectives
• Handles all required paperwork on time and correctly.
• Inputs daily charges to Information Systems
• Reconciles daily charges with departments
• Prepare and file detailed records on procurement activity, quantity, and vendors
• Identify potential program threats
• Perform escalated expediting when required to ensure on time delivery of material
• Forecast material needs while maximizing the utilization of current inventory
• Reviews purchase order claims and contracts for conformance to company policy
• Supplier / facility qualification

• Oversee receiving, warehousing and distribution operations

• Manage the regulatory shipping, tracking, reporting, of environmental requirements
• Maintain the highest ethical standards, even when challenged by individuals in higher positions
• Improve in-plant material handling and storage systems
• Leads the departments in day-to-day activity while constructing and managing mid- and long-term plans for the department
• Utilize basic principles of leadership and management to deal with teammates, supervisors, managers and customers

Requirements

• 3+ years' experience managing supply chain operations for manufacturing; inventory control / logistics role
• Bachelor’s degree or related experience
• Supervisory experience
• Ability to lead team members
• Customer service-oriented
• Familiarity with supply chain and inventory management systems
• Knowledgeable of forecasting and budgeting
• Ability to solve problems swiftly
• Working knowledge of Inventory systems
• Excellent organizational and leadership skills

• Conscientious, organized, and meticulous with records;
• Proficient in Microsoft Office including; EXCEL and Pivot Tables
• Business travel may be required
