Primary duties include providing routine and emergency dental care to adult inmates with assistance from Dental Assistant(s) and Dental Hygienist(s). The Dentist supervises Dental Assistant(s) and provides clinical supervision for Dental Hygienist(s).Performs routine dental treatment including examining teeth and gums for cavities, infections, and diseases; takes necessary x-rays; performs fillings and extractions as warranted. Diagnoses and develops treatment plans for patients.Responsible for the full range of dental care and education provided to patients, including prevention, diagnosis and treatment of diseases, injury, and deformities of the oral cavity.Assignments to other duties or locations may be necessary to meet the clinical and administrative needs of the Department.Minimum QualificationsDegree in dental surgery (D.D.S.) or dental medicine (D.M.D.) from a school approved by the Council on Dental Education, American Dental Association (ADA). Other dental schools are acceptable provided the education and knowledge acquired was substantially equivalent to that of graduates from an ADA approved schoolLicensed to practice Dentistry in VirginiaControlled Substances Certificate from the Drug Enforcement AdministrationDemonstrated ability to diagnose and treat oral health issues and inform patients on preventative care and treatmentAbility to travel to surrounding institutions and field units as a part of the Mobile Dental Team, providing dental care and oral healthcare to the patients at those sitesAbility to diagnose conditions using advanced technologies including radiography and computer-generated imagingExperience with restoration and replacement of teeth damaged from decay, trauma, or diseaseWorking knowledge of general dentistryAbility to communicate orally and in written form in a professional mannerAdditional ConsiderationsPrevious supervisory experience or work experience training and supervising dental staffExperience providing dental care and treatment in a dentist office, military, or correctional settingSpecial InstructionsYou will be provided a confirmation of receipt when your application and/or résumé is submitted successfully.
