The Transportation Inspector - Permits performs inspections on construction projects taking place in the MCDOT right of way. Additionally, the Transportation Inspector-Permits protects the interests of the county and its taxpayers by ensuring a quality construction product, which will limit premature maintenance and future safety hazards. This position will interface with contractors, engineers, land developers, and property owners throughout the entire development process.

We Require
Two years of experience as an inspector, or two years of experience in an engineering or construction field including surveying, drainage inspecting, hydrology, plan reviewing/examination, and interpretation
High School Diploma or GED
A combination of post-secondary education and/or job-related experience may substitute for the minimum qualifications on a year-for-year basis
We Also Value
Associate's degree or higher in Engineering or a closely related field
Experience in utility construction, bridge construction, plan review, reading construction plans, and geotechnical work
National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies (NICET) (Highway Construction Inspection or Materials Testing)
American Concrete Institute (ACI) Concrete Field Grade 1
American Public Works Association (APWA) Certified Public Infrastructure Inspector (CPII)
Arizona Technical Testing Institute Certifications (ATTI)
Job Contributions
Assure permitted projects are completed safely and per approved plans/specifications or approved revisions. Promote and enforce public safety
Coordinate all permit activity with contractors, subcontractors, utility companies, survey crews, soils lab, consultants, geotechnical firms, developers, and engineers as construction proceeds
Conduct pre-construction conferences, ongoing inspections, and final acceptance inspections of sub-divisions
Review plans for accuracy and constructability
Review and approve traffic control plans for compliance with MCDOT and MUTCD standards, and inspect job sites for correct placement of traffic control devices
Compile final test packets and as-builts for release of completed projects to be entered into County maintenance system
Enforce penalties when specifications are not met
Issue cease work and encroachment notices for unauthorized, unsafe, or deficient construction. Investigate citizen complaints and mediate a satisfactory resolution
Perform other duties as assigned or required
Working Conditions
Must possess or have the ability to obtain a valid Arizona driver's license by the time of hire
Exerting 50 - 100 pounds occasionally, 10 - 25 pounds frequently, or up to 10 - 20 pounds constantly
Incumbent may be subjected to extreme temperatures, wetness/humidity, respiratory hazards, and noise and vibration

Standard PPE (hard hats, safety vest, safety boots, safety glasses)
