About the Opportunity

Job Title: Network Operations Engineer / Watch Officer Level 1

Position Summary:

The Network Operations Engineer/Watch Officer will play a critical role in our Network Operations Center, monitoring, maintaining, and improving our network infrastructure to ensure optimal performance and availability. This role involves a blend of technical expertise, incident management, and communication skills to keep our systems running smoothly around the clock.

Primary Responsibilities:

    Monitor network performance and integrity, addressing potential issues proactively with adherence to service level agreements (SLAs).
  1. Respond to network incidents in a timely and effective manner, identifying root causes, and implementing corrective actions.
  2. Perform regular system checks, troubleshooting network hardware and software issues.
  3. Develop, implement, and maintain policies and procedures for network administration, usage, and disaster recovery.
  4. Perform network maintenance and system upgrades including service packs, patches, hot fixes, and security configurations.
  5. Design, configure and test networking software, computer hardware, and operating system software.
  6. Provide on-call support for network issues that occur outside of regular office hours.
  7. Collaborate with other team members and stakeholders to identify opportunities for network optimization.
  8. Participate in regular security audits and follow company protocols to address identified issues.
  9. Document all actions taken during problem resolution in appropriate internal tracking systems.
  10. Communicate effectively with team members and other stakeholders to ensure smooth operation of the network.

Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
  2. At least 3 years of experience in a network operations role, preferably in a NOC environment.
  3. Strong understanding of networking protocols (e.g., IPSEC, HSRP, BGP, OSPF, 802.11, QoS).
  4. Solid background in network administration and architecture.
  5. Proficient in network diagnostic and monitoring tools.
  6. Ability to diagnose and troubleshoot technical issues.
  7. Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts in a clear manner.
  8. Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  9. Professional certifications like CCNA, CCNP, CCIE or similar are a plus.
  10. Familiarity with security frameworks (e.g., ISO 27001, NIST, CIS) is preferred.

Physical Requirements:

  1. Ability to sit and work at a computer for extended periods.
  2. Availability to work in shifts or provide after-hours support as needed.
