Buyer - Greeneville, TN

Job Purpose/Scope:

Reporting to the Director of Supply Chain, the Buyer performs assigned tasks for the acquisition of materials and services, supplier management and cost management to ensure quality and on-time delivery in support of the manufacturing process. The Buyer carries out the purchasing processes necessary to provide the proper goods and services, as required by operations, on a timely, competitive, and cost-effective basis.

Job Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Convert requisitions to Purchase Orders.
  • Process Purchase Orders for assigned direct materials and sub-contract operations.
  • Manage vendor/supplier relationships.
  • Continuous improvement and cost reduction activities.
  • Assist with Supplier metric data collection and entry as assigned.
  • Coordinate metal scrap process and pick-ups with contracted scrap dealers.
  • Maintain supplier packing list files and create MSO's as requested.
  • Performs such individual assignments as assigned
  • Establish and maintain effective work relationships within the Department, the Group, the Company, and the community
  • Maintain the professional competence, knowledge and skills necessary for the satisfactory performance of all assignments.


Competencies:
  • Bachelors Degree in Business or Accounting. A combination of college coursework and experience may be considered.
  • Professional Certification from a recognized organization (ISM, ASCM, APS) desired.
  • 3 to 5 years related experience and/or training
  • Experience with and thorough understanding of ERP systems.
  • Familiarity with proper writing skills to include grammar, punctuation, and other business writing protocol.
  • Computer skills to include word processing, spreadsheets, and other accounting/purchasing software.
  • Communication skills including listening, evaluating supplier and customer documents.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of suppliers, customers or employees of organization.
  • Analytical problem-solving skills: Use a systematic approach in solving problems through analysis of problem and evaluation of alternate solutions.
  • Interaction: Able to communicate with others in a warm and helpful manner while simultaneously building credibility and rapport.
  • Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.


Physical & Mental Demands:
  • Although largely office, sedentary work setting, will be required to go into the manufacturing environment to observe, gather and validate information for proper decision making. Must be able to don and doff any required personal protective equipment required.
  • Must have ability to clearly and effectively communicate with all levels of the organization, prepare and give presentations in person and on-line or by phone.
