Tasks and Responsibilities:

As the Assembly Engineer - Lead at Hitachi Astemo Rock Spring, Inc., you will be a key member of the Assembly Engineering team. Reporting directly to the Assembly Engineering Manager, you will work closely with the Head of Engineering and play a crucial role in the development and optimization of assembly processes. As a seasoned engineer, you will contribute your expertise in engineering principles, problem-solving, and leadership to enhance productivity, efficiency, and quality in our assembly operations. This role serves as a vital transition step to the Assembly Engineering Manager position, with growth potential within our organization.
  • Collaborate closely with the Assembly Engineering Manager, Head of Engineering, and cross-functional teams to design and develop assembly processes, leveraging your strong engineering background to drive continuous improvement.
  • Lead the implementation of assembly line layouts, workflows, and process parameters, ensuring efficient and effective operations.
  • Conduct feasibility studies and design reviews to ensure the manufacturability, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness of assembly operations.
  • Utilize your engineering expertise to analyze and improve assembly processes, equipment, and tooling, optimizing productivity and quality.
  • Mentor and develop Assembly Engineer(s), providing guidance, training, and support to foster their professional growth.
  • Facilitate new product introductions, ensuring seamless integration into the assembly processes and driving successful outcomes.
  • Collaborate with the Assembly Engineering Manager to evaluate and implement assembly equipment, tools, and technologies that align with project requirements and industry best practices.
  • Identify opportunities to optimize assembly operations, reduce costs, and eliminate waste, applying your expertise in lean manufacturing principles.
  • Collaborate with suppliers and vendors to implement new assembly technologies and components, staying abreast of emerging trends and innovations.
  • Analyze and interpret technical data, such as 3D models, drawings, and specifications, to inform decision-making and ensure accuracy in design and implementation.
  • Collaborate closely with quality assurance teams to implement process controls, ensuring adherence to quality standards and driving continuous improvement in product quality.
  • Stay updated on industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in assembly engineering, applying knowledge effectively to optimize assembly operations.
  • Actively support and participate in continuous improvement initiatives, leveraging your engineering background and problem-solving skills to enhance productivity, quality, and efficiency.

Safety & Environmental:
  • Champion a strong safety culture, enforcing adherence to safety guidelines, procedures, and regulations always.
  • Support environmental initiatives and work towards minimizing the environmental impact of assembly processes.

Quality:
  • Collaborate closely with quality assurance teams to design and implement quality control measures in assembly processes.
  • Lead efforts to improve product quality and reduce defects through process enhancements and optimization.

Delivery:
  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to ensure smooth production flow and on-time delivery of assembled products.
  • Analyze and optimize assembly line performance to meet production targets and delivery schedules.

Productivity:
  • Identify opportunities for productivity improvements within the assembly process.
  • Implement measures to increase efficiency and optimize resource utilization.

Reporting:
  • Provide regular reports to the Assembly Engineering Manager on maintenance activities, project status, resource requirements, and performance evaluations within the Assembly Engineering Department.

Key Metrics Responsibility:
  • Monitor key performance metrics related to assembly processes, including productivity, quality, and efficiency.
  • Analyze data and interpret trends to identify areas for improvement and drive performance optimization.
  • Develop and implement strategies to enhance key metrics and achieve departmental goals.
  • Provide regular reports to the Assembly Engineering Manager on work progress, key metrics, and improvement initiatives.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather and analyze data for reporting purposes.
