Job Description

In this Lean/Continuous Improvement Engineer position, the successful candidate will be a key transformational individual responsible for the lean transformation deployment throughout JSMC in support of strategic goals and objectives. The selected individual in this position will function as/or perform:
  • As an expert in the use of the lean tools/methods, lead and manage the completion of continuous improvement projects within a given time frame.
  • Develop and implement continuous improvement programs and procedures using quality control statistics, lean manufacturing concepts and six-sigma tools and analysis.
  • Manage rapid improvement events/teams. Complete events by documenting A3.
  • Provide coaching and mentoring of the lean manufacturing methodologies to all areas to ensure that the techniques and mind sets become established across the workforce. Train and build capability in all levels of organization regarding lean manufacturing.
Position Requirements:
  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering desired, Associated degree with related experience required.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age and a US citizen.
  • Must be able to obtain unescorted access to the facility through the vetting process as administered by the Department of Army Police.
  • Must be able to obtain / maintain DOD security clearance. Secret
  • Must be able to meet Anthropometric Size Requirements (ASR) for military vehicle safe entry.
  • Minimum of two (2) years working lean manufacturing or continuous improvement programs.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in communication skills (written, verbal, computer) required.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with lean manufacturing tools/elements: VSM, 1-piece flow, standard work, 6S and visual management.
  • Must be able to work independently or with minimum oversight to address responsibilities.
  • Must have good time management skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and work collaboratively in a teaming environment with unionized workforce to support customer and manufacturing requirements.
  • Experience in statistical analysis of data trending (Green Belt type projects) desired.

Working Conditions & Environment:
  • Using ladders and stairs to climb into/onto vehicle structures.
  • Climbing, walking, bending, kneeling, standing and stooping.
  • Lifting up to 50 lbs.
  • This position requires working both in office and manufacturing floor environments.
  • Working in and around dust, fumes, oils, mists, adhesives and in areas with a high noise volume.
  • Working in hot and cold environments.
