SUMMARY:

The Manufacturing Engineer I position directs a wide variety of manufacturing engineering activities to develop and improve standards for industrial processes, materials and products to assure all customer requirements are met in a cost efficient manner by performing the following duties:

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Program product lines to include the use of live tooling, as needed, using GibbsCam.
  • Make core changes to the speeds, feeds and tool paths of established programming to improve productivity. Review tool path data to identify optimization opportunities and make changes.
  • Introduction of live tooling to cells to enhance lead-time and reduce wait time in the plant.
  • Reprogram/Level load work to operate on an advanced 5 axis machine, decreasing Lead-Time and improving on time delivery - could require up to 2-5 new programs to be written.
  • Reprogram machines to be ran on a new more efficient Doosan CNC.
  • Recognize the needs of moving manual operations to more efficient VMC or CNC operations.
  • Updating programming to improve tooling or research tooling to improve programs.
  • Support R&D by offering design changes, including tooling research, and process development.
  • Tooling research, quoting, planning location in turret and tool block holders for new machinery.
  • Operate computer aided design equipment to design and develop tooling and fixtures (SolidWorks).
  • Advise production supervisors of engineering or manufacturing concerns.
  • Work closely with Manufacturing Engineering Manager to assure compliance with company standards.
  • Confer with other manufacturing engineers to share knowledge and corrective actions to enhance/improve overall company quality and profitability.
  • Project Management - Design, lead, and implement process improvement projects in a team setting.
  • Implement quality standard setup processes, eliminate need for special tooling, utilize existing machine technology where feasible, and conduct pre-launch review of all new jobs.
  • Eliminate safety hazards through sound manufacturing engineering practices.
  • Research new machinery or technology to advance improvements with production.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
  • Associates degree in Engineering or related field
  • Minimum of 5-7 years machining experience preferred in manufacturing engineering functions to include processes and process improvement.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read, analyse, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, and permutations. Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determinations of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis.

REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Ability to identify process gaps and limitations and design and develop process improvements using project management skills.
