Extruder Operator (10pm-6am - shift differential)

Primary Objective of Position

An Operator sets up and maintains an extrusion line to Intek standards with occasional assistance from a Team Lead. This includes performing hourly quality checks, maintaining hopper stock levels, assembling packaging, and packing parts.

Major Areas of Responsibility

Be able to do the following with minimum assistance:

  • Set up extruder and co-extruder, install screws, dies, heater bands, etc
  • Set up and operate secondary equipment: saws, punching systems, primers, tapers, etc
  • Understand priorities and methodology of the setup process (as defined in standard work)
  • Begin to perform (with assistance) “running setup”: templates, air and prod adjustments, fundamental shape, size, and straightness
  • Perform the above running setup activities (with minimum assistance) after a period of 6-12 months
  • Run product in a production setting and identify abnormalities
  • Read and understand prints (part dimensions, fabrication, packaging)
  • Perform quality checks: Measure and record appropriate data in SPC and LCS
  • Calculate footage and record production information in EPICOR
  • Perform changeovers, length changes, angle changes
  • Shut down, tear down and properly clean equipment and prepare it for the next run
  • Perform 5S and TPM tasks as assigned.
  • Other duties as assigned by Supervisor
  • Every employee is expected to support the INTEK Quality Management System (QMS) in accordance with our Quality System Manual and Documented Procedure

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Able to perform the mechanical setup of an extrusion line
  • Able to run production
  • Able to recognize defects and seek assistance
  • Able to perform basic product changes: angle, length, color
  • Able to perform quality checks and use associated equipment
  • Demonstrates safety and organizational / time management skills
  • Basic computer skills
  • Basic hand tools and measuring tools
  • Mechanical aptitude
  • Effective reading, writing, and verbal communication

Responsibility for Work of Others

No supervisory responsibilities.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to regularly lift (weekly) up to 30 pounds and occasionally lift up to 60 pounds with assistance.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, reach, twist and carry tools or materials over the course of 8 – 12 hour shift; while supporting 24-hour/5-day per week plant operations.
  • Regular, predictable attendance is an essential function of this position.
