Food Runner Job Description

• Food Runner ensures guests receive menu items once it is assembled by the Chef for prompt service
• In the absence of the chef, the runner acts as Expeditor
• Maintains clean trays at all times
• Checks cleanliness from previous shift and notifies manager of any problems
• Sets up, restocks and prepares runner station for service
• Cleans and sanitizes throughout the shift
• Obtains and maintains knowledge of all menu items and accompaniments
• Ensures all orders coming from the kitchen are assembled and complete by tables for pick up
• Ensures that kitchen printers and all other necessary equipment (soup warmer, bread warmer etc.) are powered on, function properly
• Ensures that all plates, cups, saucers and any other utensils needed for service are ready for service
• Ensures that all necessary condiments are available (Mustard, Mayonnaise, Ketchup, to go utensils and bags etc.)
• Ensures that serving utensils are clean and available (steak knives, soup spoons, dessert forks, tea spoons), and polishes as necessary
• Ensures that underline plates are stocked and complete with napkins
• Makes sure breadbaskets are available and clean
• Ensures that clean towels available for wipe downs
• Checks all orders carefully, and communicates with servers and chef for any items out of the ordinary or where clarification is needed
• Makes sure all orders are complete and plates are well presented
• As orders arrive from the printers make sure the member name, number of covers, table number and position are printed on ticket. If not, see server or manager
• Makes sure all items are on plates as ordered and mark it off the order ticket. Check every single plate. Communicate with Chef/line cooks if there are any discrepancies
• Must be able to call out, assemble and garnish plates in the absence of Chef
• Assembles and stacks all items for each table separately on trays
• Makes sure that side dishes are ready and complete with each order
• Places all cold food items such as salads, sandwiches, cold cuts on other side of shelf away from heat lamps
• Makes sure to check all items for completion, accuracy and table numbers
• Communicates with server and kitchen if something is not correct or missing from an order
• Keeps expeditor area clean at all times and free from any unnecessary items
• Is responsible for the setup and break down of runner station
• Assist FOH with any setup and break down of events
• Polish and clean all silverware after dinner service
