Food Safety/QA Technician Role Description: The Food Safety Technician is responsible for ensuring product quality and food safety through meeting regulatory and customer requirements. Assists in the development and implementation of policies and procedures geared towards Food Safety, Quality, Laboratory Operations, and Regulatory Interaction in an overall effort to support the operation of Marian Nut Company. Employee must be able to lift up to 25 lbs. throughout the workday. This is a non-exempt position where employees are paid on an hourly basis. The following is a further explanation of the requirements of this position. Essential Duties: - Develop, implement, and improve quality monitoring procedures, specifications, and process improvements. - Create, update and train on quality work instructions; review daily FS records. - Create and carry out a fair work schedule; maintain lab equipment and supplies. - Ensures proper cross-training of FS/QA personnel. - Provides written correspondence for Sales or Customer Service as needed. - Responsible for routine updates to FS / Laboratory SOP/SSOP's. - Assists in managing 3rd Party/Customer and Regulatory Inspections and Audits, Permit, registration, and other regulatory requirements for DOHS, FDA, USDA, County, City and others as needed. - Responsible for ensuring products meet specifications and food safety standards. - Promotes a Food Safety Culture by ensuring Food Safety measures are complied with on a daily basis. - Enforces food safety and sanitation regulations, in compliance with FSMA, to ensure that product safety and quality is maintained. - Assists in food safety training including SSOPs, GMP's, HACCP, PCs, Allergen Program, Sanitation, Housekeeping, Record Keeping, and other training as needed. - Attends Food Safety Committee meetings, to ensure expert knowledge of food safety requirements and applications, so the highest level of food safety and quality is maintained. - Responsible for addressing potential food safety hazards (i.e. unsanitary conditions, GMP violations) and communicates as needed. - Provides Corrective Action reports and ensures sustained compliance to address Customer Complaints/Findings. - Completes technical assessments for evaluation of new product/process opportunities. - Collaborates with new and current suppliers on product improvement and innovations. - Performs other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications: - Knowledge of food safety regulations and standards - Experience in conducting inspections and audits - Ability to collect and analyze samples - Strong attention to detail and organizational skills - Excellent communication and teamwork skills - Food Safety Certification (e.g., HACCP or FSPCA) is a plus not required - Experience in the nut processing industry is a plus not required Education, previous experience, certificates, license and skills: - 4-year degree in Agriculture, Food Science, Chemistry, microbiology and/or work experience equivalent - Preferred 0-2 years of work related experience - Preferred Certifications: Preventive Controls Qualified Individual (PCQI), HACCP, BRCGS, Internal Auditor - Must have a valid California Driver's license
