Job Summary

Garage Mechanic repairs automotive as well as heavy duty gas and diesel plant and quarry mobile equipment, ranging from rigid frame haul trucks to loaders, dozers, sweepers skid steers, trucks and carts. All functions are performed while exhibiting and championing safe work and environmental compliance practices. This position reports to the Garage Supervisor.

Compensation

This is a full-time hourly position, Monday through Friday, 7am to 3:30pm, some overtime may be required as needed and may include evenings, weekends, and holidays. Pay rate is $37.14 - $39.14 per hour.

Responsibilities
  • Services and performs minor repairs on gas and diesel heavy equipment such as scrapers, excavators, dozers, carts, haul trucks, wheel loaders, water and lube trucks and pick-ups.
  • Diagnoses and repairs all types of gas and diesel equipment, including dump trucks, light trucks, street sweepers, wheel loaders, trailers and various ancillary equipment.
  • Troubleshoots and repairs all company automobiles, trucks and equipment. Perform work on ignition systems, fuel systems, fuel pumps, injectors, hydraulic systems, lighting systems, electrical systems, radio systems, and ABS brake systems; adjusts brakes, and aligns wheels.
  • Disassembles and overhauls engines, transmissions, clutches, rear ends, and other assemblies on diesel/gasoline motorized equipment, replacing worn or broken parts.
  • Performs welding, brazing, cutting or fabricating on engine powered equipment or components.
  • Maintains air conditioning units on all mobile equipment.
  • Maintains service, repair and maintenance records.
  • Communicate status of downed vehicles to Garage Supervisor.
  • Makes emergency field repairs to all equipment in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Maintains work area in a clean and orderly condition.
  • Performs functions of a Garage Helper as necessary.
  • Performs clean up in all areas of the facility.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Education
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Associates degree or technical/vocational school in diesel technology or related apprentice program certificate required.
  • Mechanics Certifications preferred
Requirements/Qualifications
  • 5 years of related work experience required, with at least 3 years of experience in heavy duty equipment maintenance.
  • Experience working with CAT Visionlink, CAT SIS, CAT ET, Volvo Caretrack, John Deere Advisor or related software systems preferred.
  • Experience working with Caterpillar Haul Trucks, Loaders, Excavators, Dozers preferred.
  • Familiarity with computers and Windows, as well as MS Office.
  • Ability to read, write, and verbally communicate in the English language.
  • Knowledge of hazards associated with areas of responsibility.
  • Ability to sit, stand, stoop, and bend for extended periods of time (up to 8 hours).
  • Walk on all types of surfaces (uneven and/or slippery ground).
  • Physical ability to climb on equipment.
  • Must be able to lift and carry 75lbs.
  • Must be able to use proper Personal Protective Equipment as required.
  • Must be able to walk long distances, climb ladders, stairs, and stockpiles, stoop, and crawl under and into enclosed spaces.
  • Ability to see and hear safety indicators and warnings.
  • Must work in all weather conditions: heat, cold, wet, dry and/or dusty conditions and near hot kiln process.
  • Will have exposure to various levels of noise that may require use of hearing protection.
  • Ability to work in surroundings that include heat, dust, vibration, heights and confined spaces.
  • Knowledge of all types of equipment used in the manufacturing of cement preferred.
  • Knowledge of MSHA preferred.
Conditions of Employment

Successful candidate must submit to post-offer pre-employment physical examination, drug/alcohol screen, and background check. Some positions require FMCSA regulated on-going drug and alcohol testing.
