POSITION: SCALE OPERATOR / LANDFILL TECHNICIAN 1

STATUS: FULL-TIME/CAREER SERVICE/BENEFITS ELIGIBLE/NON-EXEMPT POSITION

JOB SUMMARY

Position requires performance of a variety of skilled and semi-skilled work relating to the daily operation of the Iron County Solid Waste Landfill, including operating equipment, maintaining facilities, adhering to required regulations and procedures, and assisting the general public. Works under the direction and supervision of the Public Works Director and Landfill Assistant Supervisor.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

A high school diploma (or equivalent) and two (2) years of experience as commercial driver and/or heavy equipment operator - or an equivalent combination of experience - is required. Must have a valid Utah License, CDL is Preferred but not required.

SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS

Applicants must possess a valid Utah Driver's License, have an acceptable driving record, and be able to perform heavy lifting of up to 150 pounds. Must have the ability to meet and deal with the public in a positive manner and complete daily paperwork requirements. Knowledge of computer entry is required.

Working knowledge of skills, materials and tools used for equipment maintenance and minor repair; safety practices required by state and other laws; hazards and safety precautions associated with landfill processing and operations; hazardous waste regulations and guidelines; basic interpersonal communication skills; and regulations related to hazardous waste and environmental protection.

Ability to operate simple to complex heavy equipment; operate heavy equipment in various conditions; perform manual tasks for sustained periods of time; perform minor equipment maintenance and repair; follow written and verbal instructions and safety regulations; read and understand prints and plans; communicate effectively both verbally and in writing; ability to perform basic math, including handling and balancing cash transactions; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with fellow employees, the public and supervisors.
