Job Purpose:

The Grounds & Horticulture Lead is responsible for the annual planning, ordering, propagating, planting, and maintenance of the various beds, boxes, hanging planters on property as well as our guest houses. In addition, this position requires pruning and maintenance of all shrubbery and specimen plantings. The applicant will also be asked to design and implement new areas of planting, utilizing both their own ideas as well as working with landscape architects.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Day-to-day maintenance and watering of all annual plantings, and perennial beds.
  • Planning for the seasons look and style while upholding tradition as well as looking at the future of the property plans.
  • Monitors and implements pest, weed, & disease control.
  • Looking at unused areas and developing perennial beds for these spaces.
  • Implementation of new planting areas.
  • Monitors all planting and grounds and makes recommendations for improvements throughout the year.
  • Participates in interior and exterior decorations throughout changing seasons & holidays and remains consistent with rich traditions & standards of the Fitzpatrick family, The Red Lion Inn, & their guests.
  • Assists the Maintenance Department with maintaining outdoor furniture & equipment.
  • Participating in weekly mowing and trimming of the grounds.
  • Maintaining all perennials, shrubs, and specimen trees.
  • Responsible for sourcing and purchasing plants, planting material, bedding material, all grass related equipment and supplies.
  • Participates in removal and neat storage of equipment and furnishings as seasons change.
  • Working with planning for POM team to help in the day-to-day operations.
  • Perform other tasks as requested by management.

 

Requirements:

  • Three years of grounds and horticulture experience.
  • Able to work independently and with others as needed.
  • Friendly and upbeat personality.
  • Able to work under pressure and in inclement weather.
  • Possess problem solving skills.
  • Be able to bring and present creative ideas to the team.
  • Ability to lift 75 pounds, stand, squat, and bend for the entirety of the scheduled shift.
