Salary: DOE

Part-time (.08 FTE, 4-part faculty workload), Exempt, Non-Benefited.  - This is not a remote position.

 

PURPOSE:    To provide education, instruction, and mentoring in specific educational content to students at Alaska Christian College and oversee Behavioral Health Program.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Serves as Chair of the Behavioral Health curriculum.
  2. Grows and promotes Behavioral Health program through connections with community partners and other colleges.
  3. Oversees adjunct faculty in the Behavioral Health area
  4. Plan, evaluate, and revise course materials such as syllabi, homework assignments, handouts, course content, course materials, and methods of instruction.
  5. Present course material in such a way that enables students to achieve a biblical worldview.
  6. Teach course material according to Alaska Christian College procedures on syllabi and assessment.
  7. Evaluate and grade students' class work, assignments, examinations, and papers.
  8. Adhere to policies and procedures outlined in the Faculty Handbook.
  9. Maintain and report course-related assessments in a timely manner.
  10. Initiate, facilitate, and moderate classroom discussions and instructional activities.
  11. Provide instructional and assessment accommodations to students with documented physical and learning disabilities.
  12. Provide academic advisement and mentoring to students as assigned.
  13. Maintain a clean, safe, and unobstructed workspace.
  14. Incorporate diversity into the curriculum.
  15. Engage in research or scholarly activity.
  16. Participate in continuing study and professional development.
  17. Contribute to the growth and development of the student body through service to the college and community.
  18. Serve on academic committees as assigned.
  19. Other duties as assigned.


SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:  Adjunct faculty, teaching assistants.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Must have a MA/MS in the Behavioral health-related field.
  2. Must be a licensed behavioral health clinician or behavioral health professional who will assume responsibilities for course development, evaluation and revision, and the evaluation of students and instructors.
  3. Must have knowledge and be able to articulate Alaska Native traditions and culture.
  4. Must have knowledge and demonstrated skills or past teaching experiences in all sections in the Behavioral Health Aide matrix at the Level I certification level.
  5. Successful experience in teaching undergraduate students, with a variety of courses.
  6. Demonstrated good communication skills, both verbal and written.
  7. Ability to incorporate new information on current and future problem-solving and decision-making.
  8. Ability to identify the educational needs of the students and develop formal educational or training programs to meet those needs.
  9. Ability to work effectively with faculty, staff, students, and community practitioners from diverse ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
  10. Ability to understand and maintain the confidentiality of all information seen or heard.
  11. Must be detail-oriented, with high accuracy and skill in all work performed.
  12. Must be able to function well in a cross-cultural environment, show a learning attitude, and willingness to be a team player.
  13. Must be able to work independently and show good judgment.
  14. Must be organized, efficient, and show good time management skills.
  15. Must be reliable and dependable with regular, timely attendance.
  16. Must have adequate physical capabilities to meet the responsibilities of the job.


All newly hired exempt faculty members will begin employment at the rank of Assistant Professor if they have not earned a doctorate or terminal degree. If newly hired faculty members have an earned terminal degree, they may begin employment at the rank of Associate Professor.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Successful experience and commitment to ministry with Native Alaskan students.
  2. Have lived or worked in an Alaskan village for more than two years.
  3. Should be an individual with a combination of education, research, work, and/ or life experience, which are relevant to providing leadership in a BHA training center program, including an orientation to Alaska Native culture and traditions, and be familiar with the CHA Program.
  4. May, or may not participate directly in the training, but must be familiar with and have approved the curriculum being taught.
  5. Should have a background in health and education and be able to administrate, serve in a statewide liaison role, uphold the mission of the statewide program, and provide program direction, development, and leadership.
  6. Have connections or can make connections with Elders for guest speaking and lecturing within the program
  7. Knowledge of multicultural teaching practice and experience with diverse populations.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS:

These duties will be conducted in a classroom environment with limited exposure to hazardous materials. 


DRESS CODE:

Within the office, "business casual" dress is expected. Jeans are acceptable as long as they are clean and well-kept.
