Accounting Manager
Waco, TX
Full-Time, Direct-Hire
Salary: 60000-80k DOE
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Oversees the maintenance of the general ledger and associated accounts, ensuring proper documentation and accurate recording of all financial transactions. Reviews entries in both the general and subsidiary ledgers for compliance with established accounting principles, managing changes to the chart of accounts. Leads the monthly and year-end closing processes, including the preparation of journal entries.
• Manages the computerized accounting system, ensuring backup control and providing support to other accounting staff. Facilitates the generation of computer-generated reports and statements.
• Coordinates the preparation of interim, year-end, and comparative financial reports, conducting analyses of current results compared to prior periods and budgets. Prepares mandated government reports and addresses inquiries as needed.
• Stays abreast of developments, trends, and standards in the accounting profession. Monitors accounting systems and recommends new or updated policies and procedures.
• Assists in the training and supervision of accounting staff under the guidance of the Controller.
• Prepares monthly bank reconciliations for all accounts, verifying the accuracy of bank statements and addressing questions or issues. Ensures the integrity of cash balances and cash flow systems.
• Reviews and prepares payroll records, overseeing the processing of payroll checks and reports through an external payroll service.
• Manages fixed asset records and control, determining depreciation terms and rates for capitalized items. Prepares property tax returns for Controller review.
• Assists the Controller in coordinating the year-end financial audit, preparing schedules, and compiling documents for independent auditors.
• Undertakes other duties as assigned.
Other Demands:
  • Ability to communicate orally with both individuals and in front of a group is crucial.
  • Regular use of the telephone and e-mail for communication is essential.
  • Sitting for extended periods is common.
  • Hearing, vision, and speaking within normal ranges is essential for normal conversations, to receive ordinary information and to prepare or inspect documents.
  • Good reasoning ability is required to solve a wide range of business problems. Must be able to apply statistical calculations, analysis of variance (ANOVA), correlation techniques, and sampling theory, as well as know algebra, linear equations, and other analytics.
  • Must be able to understand and utilize common financial reports and legal documents.
  • Preparation of monthly multi-state sales tax returns.
Position Qualifications:
  1. Education:
  • A college degree is required; a major in accounting is preferred.
2. Skills/Experience:
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work well with people are essential, as are good leadership skills.
  • Familiarity with commonly-used accounting and spreadsheet applications (e.g., Quicken, Excel) is required.
