CH Thompson Finishing is hiring a Senior Accountant to join our team!


JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Senior Accountant will play a crucial role in the financial operations of five manufacturing facilities throughout NYS, overseeing various accounting functions and ensuring compliance with accounting principles and regulations. Reporting directly to the Board of Executives, the Senior Accountant will be responsible for the following:


RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Financial Reporting: Prepare and analyze financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements, ensuring accuracy and compliance with GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles). Responsible for month end closing process and preparation of financial statements for various entities, for review, by company president, owners, and outside auditors.
  • Budgeting and Forecasting: Assist in the development of annual budgets and forecasts, providing insights and recommendations to support strategic decision-making.
  • Month-end and Year-end Close: Lead the month-end and year-end close processes, including reconciliations, journal entries, and accruals, to ensure timely and accurate financial reporting. Participate in the annual budget process for the Company and interim forecasting.
  • General Ledger Management: Analysis of monthly general ledger account activity, journal entries, accruals, variances to forecast, and reconciliation of various accounts, fixed asset administration, and various employee benefit accounting.
  • Fixed asset administration: Compile and maintain fixed asset records.
  • Financial Analysis: Conduct variance analysis and financial performance assessments, identifying trends, opportunities, and potential risks. Maintenance of various spreadsheets to support financial transactions and analysis of various expenses.
  • Bank reconciliations and various treasury functions, including bank liaison and cash flow management between various bank accounts and entities.
  • Tax Compliance: Assist in the preparation of tax returns and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local tax regulations.
  • Audit Support: Coordinate with internal and external auditors, providing necessary documentation and support during audits.
  • Process Improvement: Continuously evaluate accounting processes and procedures, identifying opportunities for efficiency improvements and implementing best practices.
  • Team Leadership: Provide guidance and mentorship to junior accounting staff, fostering a collaborative and supportive work environment.
  • Ad hoc Projects: Support special projects and initiatives as assigned by management, demonstrating flexibility and adaptability to changing priorities.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Strong analytical skills and ability to work independently.
  • Detail-oriented and demonstrates a "can-do" positive attitude.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with others in a team environment.
  • Self-starter with solid organizational skills and ability to effectively manage multiple priorities or reprioritization of projects.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities effectively.
  • Excellent communication skills - verbal and written.
  • Excellent analytical skills, attention to detail, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent skills in MS Excel and Word. Advanced knowledge in Excel understanding concepts of databases, filtering data, use of mathematical, logical, statistical and financial functions
  • Tax experience in some general partnership or corporate tax laws/preparation a plus.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • BA/BS in Accounting, Finance, or related field required;
  • 2+ years public accounting experience in auditing or tax is required;
