Cashier

We are seeking a dedicated and customer-focused individual to join our team as a Cashier at New Garden Nursery. The Cashier will play a crucial role in creating a positive shopping experience for our customers, ensuring seamless transactions, and contributing to the overall success of our garden center.

Responsibilities:

• Greet customers as they enter the store
• Assist customers with inquiries, product location, and general information
• Accurately and efficiently process customer purchases using the VMX POS software.
• Stay informed about products, promotions, and discounts to inform and assist customers effectively.
• Count and reconcile the cash drawer at the beginning and end of each shift.
• Maintain accurate records of transactions and handle discrepancies appropriately.
• Keep the checkout area clean, organized, and well-stocked with necessary supplies.
• Encourage customers to consider additional products or upsell when appropriate.
• Communicate effectively with other team members and departments.
• Coordinate with colleagues to address customer needs and resolve issues.
• Work efficiently to minimize customer wait times during peak periods.
• Manage time effectively to balance speed and accuracy in transaction processing.
• Additional responsibilities may include: assisting with watering, organizing displays, stocking shelves, inventory checks, unloading deliveries, loading up customers and general housekeeping around the greenhouse and nursery.

Qualifications:

• Previous experience handling cash and processing transactions is often preferred.
• Knowledge of basic math for accurate cash handling and change calculations.
• Basic plant and gardening knowledge is a plus
• Punctuality and limited absences.
• Maintain a professional appearance and behavior.
• Familiarity with point-of-sale (POS) systems or willingness to learn.
• A good attitude toward your work and teammates.
• Good communication skills, self motivated, goal-oriented, honest, and ethical.
• Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Requirements:

• Unassisted lifting of 30-50lbs
• Standing for extended periods of time
• Repetitive movements, bending, stooping, lifting, climbing, twisting, kneeling
• Working inside and outside in a variety of weather situations including heat, cold, rain, etc
