Job Description

Job Description
Description:

CLX Engineering is a versatile organization that specializes in automation across various domains. As we expand our project portfolio beyond our expertise in airport baggage handling systems to encompass larger ventures in theme parks and processing, we are actively seeking engineers who are highly proficient in programmable logic programming and coding. Our Integration Engineer II role demands individuals who are ready to commit to extensive travel, accommodate night shifts, and proactively tackle customer challenges.

Successful candidates possess not only the ability to troubleshoot and modify PLCs, but also demonstrate expertise in coding from scratch, hands-on experience in control panel design, and a commitment to seeing projects through commissioning.

Integration Engineer IIs operate with minimal supervision and may supervise certain day-to-day team activities. We are seeking candidates who are analytical, detail-oriented, resourceful, and quick to adapt to emerging processes and technologies. Preferred candidates should possess ISO and/or TUV applied knowledge &/or certification. Ideal candidate will have airport baggage handling experience.

The position involves designing, engineering programming, and commissioning various industrial projects using both established legacy equipment and cutting-edge technology. Design work entails familiarity with drafting software, adherence to relevant codes and standards, efficient design practices, and the latest devices. Programming is executed using multiple PLCs, with a primary focus on ladder logic, favoring Allen Bradley and Siemens systems. The commissioning phase involves overseeing project installation and troubleshooting to ensure proper functionality and customer satisfaction. While this role currently can entail significant travel for up to a year (10 days on the road, 4 days at home), there is potential for a transition to a more locally based position for the right candidates. If business travel is not feasible or desired, we kindly request that you refrain from applying.

The ideal candidate will have experience in industrial engineering, material handling, conveyors, theme park rides, and/or baggage handling. Candidate must be able to work in traditional, long-term projects and fast-paced time and material projects in the entertainment industry. Candidates should have at least some experience managing projects on their own with little to no direct supervision. We are looking for someone versatile and who works well in a variety of work environments, industries, and people.

This is not a people-manager position and it is also not an entry-level position. Candidates must have at least 3-5 years of solid experience working in automation, especially with PLC and coding (i.e., Allen-Bradley and Siemens strongly preferred). Candidates who interview should expect to demonstrate their capabilities.

CLX Engineering employees embrace our Core Values: Ethically Honest, Partnership Driven, Quality Over Profit, and Work Hard, Play Hard. CLX Engineering has great benefits including robust medical, dental, vision, 401K, and other voluntary benefits. If you enjoy problem-solving, tackling technical challenges with quality results, and ensuring clients are always happy, then CLX is just the place for you!

CLX Engineering cannot sponsor future visas and candidates must be authorized to work in the United States for at least 2 years.

Successful candidates applying for this position may interview in late 2023 but should not expect a formal hire until early 2024.

An Integration Engineer II is responsible for the following:

  • Designing control systems through interpretation of customer-supplied control descriptions, communication with clients and owners, analysis of system requirements, and any other means necessary to create a functional software design.
  • Follow company-designed standards for PLC programming.
  • Working with other project team members as needed to successfully share programming responsibilities. Entry-level supervisory and leadership skills must be performed.
  • Perform in-house factory acceptance testing prior to onsite commissioning.
  • Thoroughly testing system software prior to exposure to the client.
  • Providing on-site system commissioning as required.
  • Supervising installation personnel and progress.
  • Occasional overtime hours depending on project demands.
  • Travel demands will fluctuate and are sporadic in nature depending on client requirements &/or projects. Currently, travel may be up to 85%.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Requirements:

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • AS Degree or relevant technical skill experience in controls and automation. A college degree is not required if you can apply the skills.
  • Must have at least 3-5 years of experience working in automation, especially PLCs and on-site coding.
  • Ability to quickly understand complex applications.
  • Excellent diagnostic and troubleshooting skills working with baggage handling
  • Thorough understanding of at least one (1) major PLC hardware platform including Allen-Bradley (preferred), Siemens, Modicon, or GE.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to spend extended time in an industrial environment (possibility of heat, dirt, noise).
  • Continuous improvement mindset.
  • All offers of employment are contingent upon the results of a thorough background check. In addition, more extensive background checks are often conducted by CLX Engineering clients.
  • Ability to travel sporadically both domestically and internationally.
  • Candidates must be able to provide proof of required auto insurance when requested.

Desired Skills or Qualifications:

  • BS Engineering degree in electrical or computer science/technology from an accredited college/university
  • Rockwell Safety PLCs and/or Siemens Safety PLCs
  • Strongly preferred ISO 13849 certification experience &/or experience meeting those standards (familiarity)
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD software
