In this role you will be Under the guidance of the Director of Nursing Services and Supervisory Nurse, you'll administer prescribed medications to residents using approved methods. This includes various routes such as oral, topical, and inhalant. Your responsibilities also include accurately documenting medication administration in residents' electronic charts and eMAR. Additionally, you'll ensure timely medication orders and assume leadership duties when needed in the absence of the Charge Nurse.

When pouring and administering prescription and over-the-counter medications to residents, you will use appropriate procedures, following the "6 Rights/3 Checks" protocol. It's crucial to accurately document the administration of routine and as-needed medications on the electronic Medication Administration Record (eMAR). Before administering medication, you'll obtain and document vital signs as directed by MD orders or the Charge Nurse, promptly reporting any abnormalities. Additionally, you'll perform and document a narcotic count at the beginning and end of each shift, reporting any discrepancies to the Charge Nurse or Director of Nursing Services (DNS).

Promptly ordering or reordering medications from the pharmacy of record is essential, along with documenting medication deliveries and ensuring they're stored correctly. You'll observe residents for adverse reactions to medications and changes in their overall health, reporting any concerns to the Charge Nurse in a timely manner. Utilizing Point, Click, Care (PCC), including Point of Care (POC) and electronic medication administration records, will help you meet residents' needs effectively.

You'll also need to locate and utilize resident face sheets, service plans, physician orders, progress notes, and bowel records. Furthermore, you'll be responsible for calibrating capillary blood glucose (CBG) machines and obtaining and documenting CBG readings. Additionally, you may be delegated tasks such as insulin administration and complex wound care by a Registered Nurse, which you'll complete diligently and accurately.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Three years preferred experience as a Resident Assistant/Caregiver or CNA.
  • Experience dispensing medications in Assisted Living, Residential Care Facility or Long-Term Care setting desirable.
  • Maintains current certification in CPR and First Aid. Maintains Food Handler's Card.
  • Able to read, write and document appropriately and pay attention to details.
  • Good personal interaction skills.
  • Able to prioritize multi-demands using initiative, good judgment and a professional attitude.
