Lab Technician (Fiber Analysis)

SUMMARY

The main responsibility is to complete the chemical analysis required to produce valid and accurate results for testing. This position will assist in Wet Chemistry fibers department and will be responsible for but not limited to these areas. Fibers, lignins, dishing, instrument maintenance, control chart updating. This position requires strict adherence to testing protocols and quality control guidelines.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Perform fiber analysis including ADF, NDF, Lignin, Crude fiber, Adicp, and Ndicp
• Weigh samples
• Maintain quality assurance and quality control as listed in the standard operating procedures for these responsibilities
• Responsible for disposing of chemicals properly
• Maintains adequate inventory of supplies and chemicals needed for analysis

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES

• Assist in crucible weighing
• Assist invitro procedure
• Wash lab ware
• Stock supplies
• Prepare chemicals
• Process data entry into computer program
• Other duties as assigned by the Supervisor

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION AND / OR EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

• High School Diploma or GED

EQUIPMENT

• Personal Computer
• Operate a balance instrument
• Work with ovens over 550 degrees

WORK ENVIRONMENT

• Work is performed largely in a laboratory environment with moderate noise level
• There may be occasions when the work environment is stressful
• Work environment has some harmful chemicals
• Work is performed in an environment that contains strong smells and/or odors
• May be required to assist with rumen collecting and feeding cattle in all / any outside environment
• Occasional travel between Dairyland Labs locations may be required
• Work schedule will normally be Monday through Friday, 8:00-4:30
• Must wear personal protective equipment where required (provided)
