JOB DESCRIPTION



Position Title: Teacher Assistant for 2024-2025 School Year

Reports to and works with the classroom teacher, is supervised by the building principal and the Program Supervisor. Responsible for assisting the classroom teacher with instruction and general supervision and management of the class.


Term of Employment: One Hundred Ninety Days (190) days


Immediate Supervisor: Building Level Principal


Qualifications:


Must have a warm and friendly personality, be sensitive to the feelings and needs of others, be able to relate well to children, and be willing to fulfill responsibilities in accordance with the Trenton Special School District policies and philosophy. Must be at least 18 years old and meet the requirements of ESSA Highly Qualified.

Responsibilities:


Responsibilities will include, but will not be limited to, the following:

  • Assist in planning and implementing the daily program under the direction of the teacher
  • Assist in planning and preparing the learning environment, and preparing needed materials and supplies.
  • Supervise the classroom when the teacher is out of the room.
  • Assist the teacher in other ways as requested.
  • Maintain a professional attitude and loyalty to the District at all times
  • Treat all children with dignity and respect
  • Help teacher to supervise and promote activities designed to enhance the healthy emotional, social, intellectual, and physical development of children. Help maintain a neat and organized classroom.
  • Supervise activities to ensure safety at all times.

Physical Requirements:


Must have the ability to:

  • In case of an emergency must be able to lift or assist in lifting a student in need
  • Work with children on the floor
  • Work outdoors in any variety of weather
  • Repetitive bending, stretching, and stooping
  • Climb up and down stairs
  • Have mobility required to ensure the safety of children
  • Have visual and hearing capabilities that allow consistent supervision of children
  • Assist in bus loading and unloading
  • Provide extra assistance to students with special needs, such as non-English-speaking students or those with physical and mental disabilities
