Job Description

Purpose:

The Area Educator II is responsible for teaching, planning, designing, evaluating, and implementing innovative youth development programs.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Work in partnership with schools and other youth-serving organizations, community-based collaborations, and 4-H groups to deliver programs that address specific needs of limited resource and socially disadvantaged youth based on changing social, economic, and demographic factors.
  • Develop programs to be aligned with the Lincoln University State Extension Plan of Work, including, but not limited to focus on healthy lifestyles, leadership development, STEAM education, social justice, academic achievement, and workforce readiness.
  • Meet deadlines by submitting reports accurately and on time.
  • Write grant proposals, solicit, and secure extramural funding.

Additional Duties and Responsibilities:

  • May include supervisory responsibilities of volunteers, students, and program participants.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Regional Coordinator.
  • May require working evenings and weekends.
  • May require traveling around the region and occasional travel around and outside the state of Missouri.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in human development, youth development, child and family development, social work family science, psychology, or closely related field.
  • Minimum of two years' experience working with low-income, ethnically diverse individuals from marginalized communities in informal settings.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Personal Characteristics:

Required:

  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Computer proficiency to include Microsoft Office-Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to work as part of a larger team.

Preferred:

  • Ability to read, speak, and understand Spanish.
  • Demonstrated success - in securing extramural resources through donations, gifts, and grant funds.
  • Experience conducting educational sessions via distance learning and on virtual platforms.
  • Experience teaching and developing audience contacts with social media.

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to sit at a workstation for extended periods.
  • Ability to occasionally lift, carry, and put away parcels.
  • Normal mobility, which includes movement from place to place on the job.
  • Normal physical agility which includes ability to maneuver body while in place.
