Job Summary:
The Carpenter, Machine Room position is based at the Leonard Mt. Airy, NC Plant, with operations in the U.S. and has overall responsibility for operating woodworking machinery, fabricating wood components, ensuring quality standards, and maintaining equipment to support the production of Leonard. This position reports directly to the Plant 2 Supervisor and does not have direct reports.
Job Responsibilities:
· Operates woodworking machinery, such as table saws, planers, routers, and sanders, to cut and shape wood components for shed buildings and truck accessories.
· Sets up and adjusts machine settings, including blade or cutter depth, feed speed, and cutting angles, to achieve precise dimensions and finishes for each project.
· Fabricates components, including wall panels, roof trusses, doors, and windows, using wood materials and machine-cut parts, ensuring accuracy and adherence to production schedules.
· Assembles prefabricated components into subassemblies or finished products, following assembly diagrams, blueprints, or work instructions provided by supervisors.
· Inspects wood materials and machine-cut parts for defects, imperfections, or damage, and reject or repair any items that do not meet quality standards.
· Monitors production processes and machine operations to identify and address any issues or discrepancies that may affect product quality or efficiency.
· Performs routine maintenance tasks on woodworking machinery, such as cleaning, lubricating, and replacing worn or damaged parts, to ensure optimal performance and safety.
· Troubleshoots equipment malfunctions or breakdowns, diagnosing problems and making necessary repairs or adjustments to minimize downtime.
· Adheres to all safety regulations and procedures while operating machinery and performing carpentry tasks, including wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and following safe work practices.
· Participates in safety training programs and initiatives, contributing to the overall safety culture and awareness within the Machine Room department.
Requirements:Competencies (skills, knowledge, and abilities):
· Strong knowledge of wood materials, joinery techniques, and construction methods used in building shed buildings and truck accessories.
· Attention to detail, precision, and the ability to interpret technical drawings, blueprints, or assembly instructions accurately.
· Physical stamina and the ability to lift and carry heavy objects, stand for extended periods, and perform repetitive tasks in a manufacturing environment.
Education/Experience Requirements:
· High school diploma or equivalent; vocational training or apprenticeship in carpentry or woodworking preferred.
· Proven experience in carpentry or woodworking, with proficiency in operating woodworking machinery and hand tools.
