Position
Met Weld International ("MWI") is seeking a dynamic and versatile Mechanical Engineer to join our multi-talented Engineering Department. We are looking for a team-oriented individual who thrives on new challenges and technical excellence. The Mechanical Engineer reports directly to the Engineering Manager. This is a full time, exempt position based in the Altamont, NY facility.
Duties and Responsibilities
Designs products associated with fuel conditioning, powergen auxiliaries, generator accessories, and hydrogen-related systems supporting the decarbonization of industry.
- Provides technical support to other MWI operations personnel.
- Works with a design team to create design sketches, layouts, and plans.
- Uses computer-assisted design (CAD) software to create preliminary and detailed drawings of the product.
- Produces specifications for products and chooses raw materials and components to be used in production.
- Builds models and prototypes of the product and tests the design.
- Studies the test data and makes comparisons with similar designs.
- Develops control systems and monitors production.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Experience
Strong background in mechanical engineering; or equivalent combination of education and experience a plus.
- 1 - 3 years related experience involving designing electro-mechanical systems in a project-based environment; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Professional experience with fluid process systems involving piping, plumbing, filtrations, heating, instrumentation, and controls.
- Comfortable reviewing customer supplied documentation to develop internal design requirements.
- Prior experience in the design of process systems, pressure vessels and piping systems, and have a good working knowledge of the ASME Pressure Valve/Power Piping Codes as well as the National Electrical Codes and Standards.
- Prior experience with codes and standards, including ASME Section IX, ASME Section VIII, Zone 2 hazardous areas (UL/FM, ATEX, IECEx).
- Ideal candidate will understand and utilize P&ID's and piping specifications. Knowledge of heat exchangers and related equipment is essential.
- Prior experience with auxiliary power generations systems, ASME Section III and NavSea a plus.
Education
- Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering required. Associates degree with relevant experience can be regarded as equivalent.

- Ability to handle multiple projects at varying stages of completion simultaneously.
- Prior experience interfacing with a quality management system, ISO9001, NQA-1, etc.
- Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, and cost estimating.
- Design Software: 3D CAD proficiency required, AutoCAD/Inventor experience a plus.
