The Kleingers Group is looking for a driven, established Site Civil Engineer to join us as our Florida Office Engineering Group Leader. The Group Leader is responsible for business development and growing our new St. Pete/Tampa office. The successful candidate will provide leadership to project teams who will be working on planning, evaluation, design and implementation of civil engineering projects. The successful candidate will lead the study-phase and/or design-phase of projects related to the civil, environmental, construction and industrial fields plan, direct and coordinate the development of new civil engineering designs. Responsibilities include leading the research and development stage of projects, creating detailed project plans, and proposing and/or approving budgets, staffing and equipment needs. The Group Leader would constantly have interaction with employees outside of their department, constantly have interaction with clients, constantly interact with the public (agencies, government entities, etc.), and frequently participate in selling to clients, and is constantly expected to engage in business development and client retention efforts The group leader is expected to manage assigned P&L of a Project, while being an example of professional presence, representing the Company and the department in a positive light, and have intermediate level of software knowledge of at least one (1) engineering software package. A Professional Engineering license is required for this role.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Consults with and provides guidance to project stakeholders and managerial staff regarding engineering requirements for construction of various designs, and modifications.
  • Conflict management and resolution of project concerns both internally to the company, and externally with the clients as needed.
  • Understands the needs of design specifications of engineering requirements (i.e. – water flow rates, traffic demand, earth work balance, etc.).
  • Plans projects based on the analysis of relevant materials such as drawings, blueprints, aerial photography, survey reports, maps, and other geologic and topographical data.
  • Drafts and presents reports on topics related to projects such as detention reports and engineering due diligence reports.
  • Perform calculations for materials, equipment, and labor needed to determine probable construction cost.
  • Manages positive relationships with other department in the company.
  • Collaborates with surveyors (or directs and participates in surveying) to establish installations or reference points, grades, elevations, and other factors that will affect construction.
  • Monitors project progress and ensures design specifications and standards are met.
  • Write proposals for advanced and complex level projects. Plan for selling work within your current group's technical capability and workload capacity.
  • Able to assign projects and oversee those assigned for accuracy of work, timeliness of completion, and accurate and timely time entry.
  • Manages workload of assigned staff.
  • Able to teach and explain to others the methodologies used by The Company.
  • Advanced level of understanding of design tools and civil engineering practices.
  • Fundamental design of projects for civil engineering projects.
  • Positively drive financial metrics of group.
  • Interacting with the client to understand the goals of the client and relaying those back to the design team.
  • Expands revenue by selling the Company's services to new clients.
  • Guiding assigned team to ensure client goals at being met on time, on budget, and accurately.

      • Accountable for representation of the company at project interviews, kickoff meetings, and strategic planning client meetings.
      • Accountable for proposals, requests for quotes (RFQ), statement of qualifications (SOQ).
      • Responsible for go/no-go completion.
      • Responsible for forming strategic partnerships.
    • Marketing Initiatives and Activities
      • Adherence to all marketing initiative and activity standards.
    • Project Closeout
      • Execution of Project Closeout Activities.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications, Education, & Experience

  • Civil Engineering Degree preferred.
  • Minimum ten consecutive years of Civil Engineering experience.
  • Public speaking ability
  • Assign Co-Ops, Graduate Civil Engineers, Associate Civil Engineers, Civil Project Engineers, Senior Civil Project Engineers, APM, Advisory Civil Engineer, PM's, and SPM's projects/pieces of projects aligned with their abilities.
  • Motivate and lead assigned team members to successful completion of project on time, on budget, and accurately.
  • Hire, train, evaluate, assign, discipline assigned staff as necessary.
  • Anticipate and plan for compliance complications with regulatory requirements based on knowledge of state and local regulations.
  • Develop and coach assigned staff to help them improve and meet their career objectives, evaluate assigned staff, recommending hiring of new staff, and termination of staff.
  • Develop expertise in assigned market.

Required Skills/Abilities

  • Basic understanding of civil engineering principles, practices, and tools.
  • Proficient in computer-assisted design (CAD) and other design, data recording, and analyzation software.
  • Basic understanding of materials, methods, and tools involved in the construction or repair of site and transportation infrastructure improvements.
  • Ability to identify and solve complex problems.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to be both creative and analytical.
  • Extremely detail-oriented and accurate.

Physical Requirements

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
  • Must be able to travel to various project sites.
  • Must be able to access and navigate job sites and construction areas.
