Starting Salary for the Treatment Operator I-V is commensurate base on certification and experience as follows:


Treatment Operator I & II -$37,803-$47,254

Treatment Operator III & IV - $41,697-$52,122

Treatment Operator V - $46,055-$57,568


GENERAL SUMMARY

Monitors, operates, and maintains wastewater infrastructure using unskilled manual labor. Assists with general maintenance tasks. Inspects and maintains equipment. Collects wastewater samples. Responds to emergencies.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

The intent of this job description is to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities performed by employees in this job. Employees may be requested to perform job-related tasks other than those specifically presented in this description.

  • Operates equipment and performs preventive maintenance and repairs on sewage treatment plant equipment. Removes stoppages and clears refuse from sewage treatment plants. Performs routine visual checks on equipment and listens for unusual noises or vibrations.
  • Collects wastewater samples and runs DO, CL2 residual, PH, settleable solids and preliminary analytical tests. Calculates and posts analytical results in accordance with Wastewater Treatment Plant laboratory operating procedures and presents written or verbal interpretation. Oversees laboratory hygiene.
  • Assists in the calibration of flow measuring meters.
  • Operates River Authority vehicles, tractors, power tools, gasoline mowers, and a variety of hand tools. Conducts daily maintenance checks of fluid levels.
  • Assists operators in monitoring and maintaining Ultraviolet systems.
  • Cleans water supply filters.
  • Keeps grounds clean by picking up trash and debris.
  • Responds to wastewater plant and contract plant emergencies.
  • Performs related work as required.


SUPERVISORY REQUIREMENTS

This position does not directly supervise any employees.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Required Education and Experience

  • High School diploma or G.E.D. equivalency and less than one year of progressively responsible experience in wastewater operations; or a combination of experience and education that results in the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • Qualified candidates that possess a valid Class “D” Wastewater Operator License at the time of hire and have one (1) year of relevant experience, may qualify for Treatment Technician II.
  • Qualified candidates that possess a valid Class “C” Wastewater Operator License at the time of hire and have two (2) years of relevant experience, may qualify for Treatment Technician III.
  • Qualified candidates that possess a valid Class “B” Wastewater Operator License at the time of hire and have three (3) years of relevant experience, may qualify for Treatment Technician IV.
  • Qualified candidates that possess a valid Class “A” Wastewater Operator License at the time of hire and have five (5) years of relevant experience, may qualify for Treatment Technician V.

Required Licenses or Certifications

  • Must obtain a Class “D” Wastewater Certificate within one (1) year of employment.

Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license and an insurable driving record.
