Job Description
Purpose of the Role:
This position provides the responsibility of on-site camp facility Assistant Chef to maintain a clean, attractive and safe environment for all users of Farmers Union Camp. Associated duties will include assisting the Head Chef with preparing food and maintaining inventories and required record keeping. North Dakota Farmers Union requires the Assitant Chef to maintain acceptable levels of neatness and cleanliness of self and kitchen environment. The Assistant Chef will be a good ambassador for the Farmers Union Educational program at all times.
Supervision: The Assistant Chef will be under direct supervision of the Education Director but will directly report to the Head
Chef on a daily basis.
Key Responsibilities:
• Maintain a sanitary and safe environment for food handling, serving, and storing
• Prepare appropriate food quantities as directed by Head Chef
• Occasionally prepare meals for special dietary needs and food allergies
• Minimize waste on food, supplies and equipment
• Assist kitchen crews; including campers with cleanup
• Identify health, fire and safety hazards; inform Head Chef and act on hazards immediately
• Keep all equipment clean and in good working condition, properly stored and used only for the intended purposes
• Maintain the kitchen area by keeping all surfaces (walls, counters, equipment and floors) sanitized and free of clutter
• Practice energy conservation for the camp kitchen
• Establish good relations with all youth members, staff and vendors associated with camp and promote the youth program whenever appropriate
• Ensure security, integrity and confidentiality of data and information
• Other duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
• Possess effective written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills
• Ability to follow orders effectively in a timely manner
• Work with all skill types and levels of personnel and members
Educational Requirements:
• The Assistant Chef shall have a high school diploma or equivalent
• The Assistant Chef is required to obtain CPR and First Aid certification
• The Assistant Chef must have a safe food handlers certificate from ServSafe and compensated
• The Assistant Chef must maintain a valid U.S. driver license
• The Assistant Chef must successfully complete Department of Health certification
Working Conditions:
• Occasional travel
• Strict seasonal schedule; day, evening and week-end work
