Job Description

Our firm is a growing, fast-paced, and diverse law practice. The firm concentrates on health care law, estate planning, probate and estate administration, discrimination law, employment law, personal injury, consumer protection, criminal law, family law, debt collection, and general civil litigation. We are looking to hire a Probate Litigation Associate with at least five years of experience. This Associate will primarily work in a practice that concentrates on probate litigation with a focus on contested guardianships and conservatorships, will contests, trust disputes and breaches of fiduciary duty.

Probate/Estate Attorney Responsibilities:

  • Provide representation for clients in court in legal cases as pertains to probate/estate law
  • Develop litigation tactics and negotiation strategies
  • Experience in handling all aspects of the estate and trust administration process in Massachusetts
  • Preparation of probate pleadings: petitions, inventories, accountings, final reports, etc.
  • Preparation of documents relating to identification, collection and value of assets
  • Preparation of all manner of estate planning documents including: Durable Powers of Attorney, Health Care Proxies, Wills and various types of simple and complex trusts
  • Draft substantive complaints, motions, oppositions, correspondence and other pleadings for contested matters
  • Research and prepare accompanying memorandums for various probate issues
  • Draft and respond to interrogatories, subpoenas and document requests

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Candidates should possess exceptional writing, analytical and legal research skills as well as the unique communication and interpersonal skills needed to effectively communicate with clients, colleagues, opposing counsel, and the courts
  • Understanding of legal language and principles, research methods, court pleadings and processes, and other related matters
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to function well in a high-paced and at times stressful environment
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality, and to exercise discretion and good judgment

Education and Experience:

  • JD/Admitted to practice law in Massachusetts
  • A minimum of 3-5 years of experience practicing probate/estate law
  • Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills
  • Good organizational and multitasking abilities
