Hiring Immediately - Road Safety Supervisor    

Transdev is seeking a Road Safety Supervisor (position hours 10:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m.) for its Boston Public Schools transportation contract.  The Road Safety Supervisor performs a variety of functions to ensure that safe transportation service is efficiently delivered.  Position performs both field and office assignments at the discretion of the General Manager, Director of Safety and Training, and Safety Desk Manager.

Responsibilities:  

  • Ensures safety and assists the client, School Bus Drivers, and Bus Monitors in overcoming operational challenges.
  • Supervises and instructs School Bus Drivers with regards to safety, service, and route issues. Assists with on-time performance, as needed.
  • Conducts on-board evaluations and observes School Bus Drivers on the road, addresses safety problems, and documents safety violations.
  • Assists DriveCam Manager and Coordinator by coaching Drivers in response to video recorded unsafe driving events.
  • Helps mediate issues between School Bus Drivers and students parents, and/or school personnel.
  • Utilizes other computer-based systems to monitor and improve on-street service.
  • Reviews route issues and makes recommendations for improvements.
  • Monitors, documents, reports and counsels employees regarding violations of Federal, State or local statues or ordinances and any Company policies and/or regulations in order to ensure safe bus operations.  Observed violations may be on the road and on'off of Company properties.
  • Investigates accidents, incidents, unusual occurrences, and complaints.
  • Compiles comprehensive, accurate and timely (end of shift) Safety deployment reports, incident/accident reports, and complaint investigation and observation records.  Enters incident/accident reports into WebRisk by the end of the business day on which they occurred.
  • Evaluates School Bus Drivers for fitness for duty, as necessary.
  • Requests replacement buses/School Bus Drivers, as needed, for vehicles involved in accidents or incidents and for vehicles involved in accidents or incidents and for special services.
  • Assists with ensuring the safety of the yards and other Transdev property.
  • Visits schools to evaluate and address service performance and safety issues.
  • May be called upon to testify on behalf of the Company during the Union grievance process, Accident Review Committee meetings, Safety appeals meetings, and other legal or administrative proceedings.
  • Maintains an orderly and clean work area and vehicle.
  • Adheres to a dress code that demonstrates professionalism and respect.
  • Participates in Safety Meetings and other events.
  • Maintains confidentiality of all sensitive information.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Education, Licensing, and Certifications Required:  

  • High school diploma or General Education Diploma (G.E.D.).
  • Possess a valid driver’s license.
  • Have and maintain a satisfactory driving record consistent with Company and client policies.

Education, Licensing, and Certifications Preferred:  

  • A valid Class B or higher Commercial Driver’s License with Passenger and School Bus endorsements.
  • A valid School Bus certificate.
  • Ability to obtain and a medical examiners certificate. 

Experience Required:  

  • Two (2) years of passenger transit related experience.

Skills and Knowledge Required:  

  •  Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to read and comprehend instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to compose simple correspondence as well as reports
  • Must be able to interact professionally with internal and external customers at all levels and demonstrate poise, tact, diplomacy, and utilize good judgment and discretion.
  • Ability to work well with diverse groups.
  • Must work and interact effectively with diverse groups.
  • Must be detail oriented, well organized, and possess effective time management skills
