CREW LEADER (STREET & BRIDGE)

Position will be open until filled.

GENERAL PURPOSE: Under general supervision, performs specialized equipment operation and semi-skilled labor in the repair and maintenance of City streets, bridges and infrastructure and leads an assigned work crew, in accordance with all safety regulations and procedures.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Supervise work crews in repair and maintenance activities, special projects, sidewalks and ADA ramps; prioritizes and assigns tasks; orders and stages materials, supplies and equipment; trains crew in work procedures and the proper use and maintenance of equipment.
• Maintains records, work orders, and logs of work crew activities in electronic records management software.
• Controls work sites to ensure that safety rules and regulations are adhered to, and that the work zones and all equipment are in safe operating condition.
• Operates, cleans and maintains vehicles, tools and equipment in accordance with all safety regulations and procedures; identifies and reports problems requiring additional attention.
• Utilizes proper safety precautions in all work performed; reports problems and emergency situations; recognizes, avoids, and reports unsafe acts, conditions, accidents and injuries.
• Ensures that hazardous materials are cleaned up in a timely manner and controlled according to City policy and procedures.
• Hours: Monday through Friday 7:00 am-3:30 pm, some overtime/on-call shifts may be required.
• Regular and timely attendance is required.
• Other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and Experience:

High School Diploma or equivalent; and two year's maintenance experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Required Licenses or Certifications:

• Must possess a valid Texas Commercial Driver License, Class A.
• Applicants with an out-of-state driver license must provide an original certified driving record from the state of driving licensure.

Required Knowledge of:

• City policies and procedures.
• Materials, equipment and tools used for maintenance and repair of streets, bridges, sidewalks, ADA ramps and infrastructure.
• Operation, maintenance, repair and safety standards for motorized equipment and vehicles.
• Proper use and storage of hazardous chemicals used in the workplace.
• OSHA safety rules and regulations, and safety standards and practices in hazardous traffic environments.
• Occupational hazards and safety precautions.

Required Skill in:

• Operating and maintaining tools and equipment in a safe and effective manner.
• Following and maintaining safety standards.
• Closely following verbal and written instructions and procedures.
• Prioritizing, assigning and coordinating work of assigned personnel.
• Safe and efficient operation and maintenance of trucks and equipment according to standard operating and safety procedures.
• Establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with co-workers and the public.

Physical Demands / Work Environment:

• Work is performed outdoors; required to perform moderate physical work, and lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
