Job Summary:

Our client, a reliable plastics injection molding machine manufacturer is seeking an expereinced Field Service Technician. The Field Service Technician performs work remotely at customer site, installing and service equipment and providing customer training and support, as necessary.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Performs software and hardware installations.
  • Performs all safety checks on equipment.
  • Educates customers on equipment and instructs on proper operation.
  • Provides technical support to external/internal customers. Develops and maintains superior customer relations, coordinates and service as a liaison with internal resources to ensure effective customer service as well as provide telephone support to upper-level Service Technicians.
  • Orders replacement parts, troubleshoots and diagnoses problems with control systems and develops an organized approach to solving machine problems and repairs/replaces parts as required.
  • Repairs and/or replaces any component on machines, robots or product handling equipment.
  • Arranges for the return of parts as necessary.
  • Provides written reports on a regular basis to the Service Manager.
  • Troubleshoots and repairs injection molding machines and robots, including performing conducting tests and inspections on all mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical, and electronic or software components.
  • Assists/advises customers via telephone or on-site when technical difficulties arise.
  • Manages resolution of customer issues, including order and installation of replacements parts as necessary.
  • Troubleshoots and makes corrections as required to all current control systems; calibrates machines to achieve optimum performance and sets-up and maintains machines.
  • Instructs other Service Technicians and/or customer operators on the maintenance and safe operations of injection molding systems.
  • Provides telephone support to customer staff or customer operators.
  • Communicates on an ongoing basis with Central Service/Manufacturing/Parts Center to obtain answers to problems encountered in the field.
  • Troubleshoots and makes corrections as required to all systems, including controls, hydraulic, mechanical, pneumatic and electrical and electronic systems and the programmable controls.
  • Calibrates/fine tunes machines to achieve optimum performance.
  • Diagnoses and troubleshoots problems with current control systems.
  • Provides follow-up support to customers post resolution of technical issues.
  • Adjusts process variables as required in order to produce parts of acceptable quality.
  • Provides guidance and/or on-the-job training to junior Service Technicians. Develops an organized approach to solving machine problems by using all available reference materials, including manuals, drawings, procedures, etc.
  • Performs other duties or special projects as required or as assigned by a supervisor.

Qualifications:

  • Associates in Industrial Maintenance Technology concentration in Injection Molding Machines Degree in Mechatronics OR equivalent work experience
  • BS in Mechanical or Electrical or Polymer Science/Plastics Technology or Equivalent Experience
  • 8+ years in Injection Molding troubleshooting or processing or prior experience as a Field Service Injection Molding Technician/Service Engineer
  • Master Molder Degrees/Certifications

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of blueprints and schematics to troubleshoot electrical/electronic, hydraulic and mechanical systems
  • Good communication skills
  • Knowledge of plastic processing
  • Knowledge of injection molding processing
  • Knowledge and understanding of injection molding process
  • Ability to troubleshoot problems systematically
  • Ability to rebuild an injection and clamp unit
  • Knowledge of microprocessor programming
  • Ability to level a machine and a robot, adjust nozzle concentricity, platen parallelism and tie-bar stretch
  • Knowledgeable in materials such as PET, Polypropylene, Polyethylene, Styrene and other common materials
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and strong customer service orientation
  • Tact and diplomacy, i.e., must possess the ability to handle difficult or unhappy customers
  • Demonstrated initiative-taker with a positive attitude
  • Familiarity with client's machines and robots is preferred
  • Computer programming knowledge and/or experience is a plus
  • Experience in either one of the following skill sets (processing, injection molding machine, robot) and lacking in just one of the following skill sets (electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, computer) has limited processing experience (please clarify doesn't make sense the way it's written)
  • Uses internal resources efficiently to resolve customer issues expeditiously and correctly
  • Extensive experience with injection molding machines, well rounded skill set in electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, computer and able to provide basic training for customers and employees
  • Competent with automation and external assemblies
  • Able to work independently with minimal back office (engineering, spare parts, phone/technical support)
