Job Description

The Dance Instructor provides enjoyable, high quality and safe classes to YMCA members and program participants. Serves as a positive and wholesome role model to all participants and other staff in accordance with the policies and procedures of the YMCA of the Iowa Mississippi Valley.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY: The Dance Instructor is responsible for supervising all participants during class time.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Serve as a role model to members and Y staff and live the YMCA mission, vision and values of the YMCA movement.
  2. Maintain a positive attitude, act in a professional manner and provide extraordinary member service and responsiveness to members needs while exhibiting teaching and leadership skills.
  3. Establish and maintain good communication with all participants, members and supervisor.
  4. Maintain equipment and insure good housekeeping before, during and after class reporting all concerns.
  5. Teach dance to young children. Establish proper class design. This would include written lesson plans, practice and research, supplies, and equipment as well as model and enforce facility policies.
  6. Attend all staff meetings and/or trainings when scheduled and assist with fundraising events when needed
  7. Secure approval from supervisor of a sub when needed.
  8. Report any accidents, concerns, equipment troubles immediately. Fill out and file with appropriate supervisor all incident reports when needed.
  9. Participate in and solicit others to participate in necessary YMCA financial development efforts, specifically the Annual Campaign.
  10. Maintain certifications listed under Certificates and Other Requirements while ensure that licensing regulations are met and attend all in-service trainings and staff meetings.
  11. Adherence to all policies and procedures of YMCA of the Iowa Mississippi Valley.
  12. Regular and timely adherence to respective schedule/meetings.
  13. All other duties as assigned by the Branch Executive.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  1. High School degree preferred
  2. Prior dance experience is required.

CERTIFICATIONS AND OTHER QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Must be able to pass background check
  2. CPR/First Aid/AED certification*
  3. Mandatory Reporter*

*Note: The * noted certification training programs must be obtained within 30 days of hire, if not currently certified. Some are available through employment.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Able to demonstrate and physically perform all dance and related activities being taught. Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds and set up program equipment as necessary. While performing the duties of the job, the employee is regularly required to tspeak, see close and far range and hear.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to small children and program equipment. The noise level in the work environment can vary from quiet to moderate depending upon the number of participants and activities occurring. This position works in a variety of environments which can include, but are not limited to, indoors, outdoors, schools and gymnasiums.
