As part of our commitment to making a positive impact, we partner with both Hampton and Newport News General District Courts in the implementation of Behavioral Health Dockets. Behavioral Health Dockets are non-adversarial approaches by the judicial system, treatment providers, and other stakeholders addressing the needs of individuals with serious mental illness who have become involved in the criminal justice system. Through ongoing support and supervision, our Court and Team assist individuals as they engage in services and address challenges to prevent further involvement in the criminal justice system.

Position Overview:

We are currently seeking a dedicated and compassionate Behavioral Health Docket Therapist I to serve as the point of contact and provider of clinical services for participants in the Behavioral Health Docket and their families. The Behavioral Health Docket is specifically designed to effectively treat and support individuals identified with a Serious Mental Illness (SMI) or Serious and Persistent Mental Illness (SPMI) who are in need of behavioral health and substance use disorder treatment services or otherwise under Court order. As the Behavioral Health Docket- Therapist I, your primary purpose will be to provide treatment services, timely assessments, resource linkages, and supportive services for participants with their service-related needs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide clinical services to participants in the Behavioral Health Docket.
  • Conduct timely assessments and assist in resource linkage for participants.
  • Identify, develop, and link participants to needed resources and entitlements.
  • Offer advocacy, outreach, education, and outreach for the Behavioral Health Docket.
  • Maintain positive and productive relationships with the criminal justice system, as well as the treatment community.

Requirements: Master's Degree in Social Work or Counseling and one (1) year of related clinical experience. Clinical supervision toward licensure is available for incumbents seeking licensure Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) or Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) with the approval of the Virginia Licensing Board after a probationary period.

The selected candidate must successfully pass a criminal history fingerprint background investigation, DMV record check, Child Registry search, drug screening test and employment reference checks.
