Our Opticians work with patients to advise on the style and fit of frames and lenses that best suit their needs, after obtaining prescriptions from our Optometrists and Ophthalmologists.

Travel to various CEENTA locations required, dependent upon business need.  This position is PRN and will work less than 20 hours per week to support the Matthews, SouthPark, Monroe, and Blakeney offices.


Primary Objective
The Optician provides clinical support to Providers through the delivery of high quality, compassionate optical services to CEENTA’s patients. 


Essential Job Functions

  • Manage daily operations of a regional optical dispensary in collaboration with the Manager of Eye Ancillary Services 
  • Assist patients in the selection of prescription eyewear  
  • Educate patients on frame and lens options that suit their unique needs 
  • Adjust eyewear to ensure a comfortable fit for patients 
  • Document patient eyewear orders in the Point of Sale and EHR systems 
  • Operate optical equipment to facilitate the manufacture of eyewear, including lensometers, pupilometers, and progressive lens identifiers 
  • Verification of prescription and measurements of eyewear received from optical laboratories  
  • Dispense eyewear to patients, including frame adjustments as needed to ensure proper fit 
  • Counsel patients on appropriate use and care of their eyewear 
  • Evaluate and manage patient concerns with their eyewear  
  • Maintain relationships with optical frame vendors, providing feedback on sales and frame selection inventory 
  • Maintain inventory of vendor frames not participating in consignment programs  
  • Index documents pertinent to patient care from the document management system to the EHR system 
  • Perform dispensing desk turnover/set-up and equipment/frame sterilization 
  • Maintain OSHA standards to ensure a sterilized and safe environment 
  • The ability to work on-site  
  • Predictable, reliable and prompt attendance

Supervision

The Optician reports to the Manager of Eye Ancillary Services, with administrative oversight from the Practice Manager/Supervisor/Coordinator when applicable.  


Work Environment

The Optician functions in a multi-specialty clinic with high patient volume. This role may be exposed to contagious or infectious diseases, and therefore, may be required to wear personal protective equipment at times. This position routinely uses standard medical office equipment as well as standard medical diagnostic equipment. Position Type and Expected Hours of Work 

This is a PRN position with core hours between Mondays-Fridays, 7:30am –5:30pm. Hours are subject to variation based upon clinic needs. 


Travel

Travel to various CEENTA locations required, dependent upon business need. This position will support the Matthews, SouthPark, Monroe, and Blakeney offices.


Education and Experience

 High school diploma or equivalent required. 

 Basic or Advanced American Board of Opticianry (ABO) Certification strongly preferred.  


Additional Eligibility Qualifications

Current BLS certification from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross required.  

One to three years’ optical or customer-centered sales experience preferred.

They perform an array of administrative duties, which includes documenting patient eyewear orders in the Point of Sale and EHR systems, managing vendor relationships, and maintaining inventory of vendor frames not participating in consignment programs.
