To support the overall live presentation experienced by the audience from its inception in the studio through the performance on stage, including all details related to the stage & studio. This role is responsible for assisting the Production Stage Manager, the Stage Manager, and the Production Manager.


The Assistant Stage Manager is a Full-Time Seasonal, exempt position with benefits. For the 24/25 performance season we are offering 35 weeks of work. We are looking for someone to begin work on September 23, 2024, work through December 29, 2024, and then return to work from January 12, 2025 through June 8, 2025. The actual work schedule is variable and includes evenings and weekends, as required.


RESPONSIBILITIES


Stage Management administrative duties: (75%)

  • Prepare and maintain the performing and rehearsal environments for the Dancers and Artistic Staff (including guest choreographers and repetiteurs) on a daily basis.
  • Join the Production Stage Manager (PSM) and Stage Manager (SM) in coordinating and supporting the choreographers, designers and resident artistic staff.
  • Provide props and audio/video equipment for rehearsal.
  • Operate video camera and record rehearsals as requested by Artistic Staff.
  • Learn details of each show to smoothly run the backstage during performances.
  • Assist PSM & SM in operation of all performances and rehearsals.
  • In conjunction with PSM & SM, provide scenic, prop, and dancer floor markings in rehearsal spaces and stage.
  • Assist in creation and maintenance of run sheets, presets and prop paperwork.
  • Assist in preparation of company callboard at the theatre, assist in dissemination of production specific paperwork.
  • Enforce Company policies and directives of the Artistic Staff regarding professional behavior for all performers in the theatre(s).
  • Provide first aid and gather medical support when dancers or staff injuries occur.
  • Assist the Production Department with administrative work for the department such as documents, filing, and communications as needed.

Supervise additional and adjunct staff and volunteers: (10%)

  • Assist with schedules, and attendance of Supernumerary Performers.
  • Work with and teach Stage Management Interns.

Stage Manage non-mainstage performance events: (15%)

  • Assist Stage Manager and/or execute and lead non-theatre performances/exhibitions (ie - Festivals, Ballet's annual Ball, in-house Studio 7 performances & school performances (Rising Stars, Spring Preview, Next Generation).

Other job-related assignments as needed. (10%)

  • Assist Production manager in tracking and clerical details of Show rentals to other organizations.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • College degree. (Stage Management, Theatre or affiliated major preferred)
  • Minimum of one year of stage management experience working with some in a major national performing arts company at the equivalent scale of Boston Ballet productions. (Dance experience preferred)
  • Solid communication, management, and organization skills.
  • Must have the ability to remain calm in stressful situations and have demonstrated experience
    managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Musical knowledge and vocabulary necessary.
  • Knowledge of dance vocabulary preferred.
  • Knowledge of video and audio equipment.
  • Computer skills - Microsoft Office applications.
  • Experience working w/ Unions preferred. (AGMA, AFM, IATSE, & USA)
  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time.
  • First Aid and CPR certification a plus.
