Phlebotomist

Under the direction of the Laboratory Supervisor, the Phlebotomist II obtains and prepares specimens for analysis, is trained in Paternity Collections, processes Tissue, PAP, Cytology and blood/swab specimens, etc., for various reference laboratories, enters/batches reference lab orders, prints reports as assigned, answers/routes phone calls, monitors the pneumatic tube system, sorts/files faxes/orders/papers and receives specimens from outreach clinics. Requirements: High school graduate or equivalent. Ability to competently complete on-the-job training provided within the department. A minimum of 1 year of previous health care experience in a direct patient care related role. Certification as a nursing assistant is preferred not required. Current American Heart Association (AHA) Heart Code BLS required. New employees certify within three (3) months after hire date. Ability to read and communicate effectively in English. Strong written and verbal skills. Basic computer knowledge. Basic clerical skills. Ability to learn phlebotomy skills and perform phlebotomy procedures competently. Ability to communicate with tact and professionalism. Minimum Years of Experience: Less than 1 year. Preferred: Prior lab experience preferred.
