Job Title:                 Barista

Department:           The Coffee Point

Reports to:              Store Manager

Direct reports:        None


Summary:

The Barista will greet customers, answer their questions, take orders and accept payments, and prepare and serve food and beverages. You will also maintain a clean and well-stocked workspace and dining area, update displays, and continuously expand your knowledge of food, beverage and tobacco quality controls, preparation methods, and presentations.


To succeed as a barista, you should be committed to providing customers with excellent service. You should be positive, friendly, knowledgeable and polite.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities of the Barista:

  • Welcoming customers, informing them about specials or new items, answering questions, and accepting orders and payments.
  • Preparing foods, such as sandwiches or baked goods, and grinding and blending coffee beans, brewing coffee and tea, and serving items to customers.
  • Packaging food and beverages for sale.
  • Selling coffee, tea blends and brewing equipment, highlighting the differences between items and educating customers about brewing methods.
  • Knowledge in various tobacco products
  • Cleaning and restocking work and dining areas, emptying trash, and sanitizing equipment and utensils.
  • Learning about brewing methods, beverages blends, food preparation, and presentation techniques to improve food and beverage quality.
  • Updating signage and displays to inform, and attract, customers.
  • Taking nightly inventory and replenishing items in display cases, at tables, or behind the counter.
  • Working as part of a fun, high-energy team.
  • Adhering to all food safety regulations and quality controls.
  • Other duties, as assigned.


Education and Experience:

  • All applicants must be 18 years of age or older.
  • High School Diploma or GED, preferred.
  • Six months’ experience in the barista field (strongly preferred)
  • Strong retail operations knowledge, including retail POS systems, merchandising, and customer service.


Requirements:

  • Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.
  • Experience in food and beverage preparation.
  • Training and willingness to continue learning regarding food and beverage preparation.
  • Giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, and asking questions as appropriate.
  • Effective communication; written, verbal, and interpersonal skills.
  • Basic computer and software experience using MS Office products.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Organized and professional. Demonstrates exceptional attention to detail.
  • Ability to work under pressure/ able to diffuse tense situations with unhappy customers.
  • Regularly required to stand, walk, talk and hear.
  • Regularly required to lift and / or move items up to 30 pounds.
  • All applicants must be at least 18 years of age with no prior felony offenses.
  • Must pass extensive criminal background check and oral drug screening.
