About this job

A Customer Service Professional position requiring creativity, empathy, interpersonal skills and a strong desire to help.

Provides prompt claim investigation, evaluation and settlement or denial of claims with highly complex exposures. Provides empathy and understanding to customers that may be upset or frustrated. Authorizes payments in accordance with assigned authority limit. Documents claim files with all pertinent information and disposition. Highly experienced claims handler. Responsible for handling claims having highly complex negligence, compensability, damage and coverage issues. Handles litigation pending claims. Is the jurisdictional expert and acts as a resource for others. Frequently attends mediation and settlement conferences and trials. May be involved in formal training efforts and acts as a mentor.

What You'll Do:

As a Claims Representative Specialist on our Hortica, Commercial Transportation, or Commercial Liability team, you'll provide prompt claim investigation, evaluation, and settlement or denial of claims with higher complexity of coverage involving litigation. In addition, you'll:

  • Verify coverages and coverage investigation issuing reservation of rights and/or disclaimers

  • Investigate losses, and negotiate claims settlements with claimants and their legal representation within assigned authority limits

  • Manage investigative process by taking recorded statements, obtaining investigative reports, evaluating damages or eligibility for benefits, and determining legal responsibility

  • Maintain accurate documentation of investigative facts and decisions that occur during the investigation, evaluation, or resolution processes.

  • Strategize with defense bar to defend our insureds in business related liability exposures

  • Assist the claims team with training and providing technical claims knowledge

What it Takes:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience

  • 5+ years of related work experience

  • Thorough knowledge of insurance policies, coverage, claim procedures, insurance regulations, litigation management, and familiarity with medical and legal terminology

  • Strong analytical abilities to review, exercise judgment, and evaluate claim information to make sound decisions

  • Strong oral and written communication skills with the ability to maintain confidentiality

  • Ability to review and interpret complex and detailed documents

  • High level of computer skills
