The UX Product Design Manager oversees an entire product vertical within our portfolio of products and manages the associated design team. This is not an ivory tower management role; the incumbent should expect to contribute at the individual level as needed. They will be the expert on design decisions made for their product vertical and will knowingly share competitive insights and identify areas of UX and design opportunity. This role connects design initiatives to the product vision and aligns them to the larger organization's goals, strategy, and objectives for their team. They create the visual and functional requirements for the products in their domain, work with Product Manager's (PM) and engineering to create epics and stories, understand technical limitations and specifications, and ensure product features are built to spec. They govern the design system for their vertical, ensuring that components are built correctly and updated as needed. They also work with the UX Design Director to present strategies, design decisions, and future design vision to executive leadership. The UX Product Design Manager develops processes, sets standards, evaluates progress, and manages designers on their team. They also oversee budgets, vendors, contracts, and hiring decisions within their domain.

As a UX Product Design Manager you will...

  • Manage a team of UX designers for a product area in our product portfolio * Serve as an individual contributor (IC) UX Designer as needed
  • Define and oversee the implementation of visual and functional specifications * Lead design discovery, ideation, framing, and planning for product area
  • Be an expert on the entire product vertical - it's users, features, business goals, strategy, vision, and competition
  • Work with PM's and engineering to create epics/stories, understand technical limitations and specifications, and ensure product features are built to spec
  • Connect team design initiatives to the product vision and align them to the larger organization's vision, strategy, and objectives
  • Initiate, plan, and deliver user testing of design work at critical junctures to validate (or invalidate) design decisions and pivot accordingly
  • Assess the success of design solutions by collecting and parsing user analytics and product metrics
  • Keep abreast of user needs, design trends, and industry updates, and radiating that information across the team
  • Serve as a liaison between design, product management, engineering, and marketing to provide fluid communication regarding design decisions
  • Connect the dots between other internal and agency work so that there is consistency across the product portfolio
  • Govern the design system for product vertical; identify components, track iterations and work with engineering and the UX Design System Architect to upkeep documentation
  • Work with the UX Design Director to present updates and overall product design vision to executive leadership
  • Recruit, hire, retain and designers on the team * Provide constructive and thoughtful feedback that creates a safe space to freely ideate, collaborate and mentor more junior designers
  • Be curious, open, positive, collaborative, and empathetic * Think like an owner - scrappy, proactive, organized, and detailed

Requirements:

  • 7+ years of relevant industry experience as a product designer
  • Experience leading the UX and design vision for a product vertical
  • Ability to gather and use qualitative and quantitative data (as well as a strong gut instinct) to make informed design decisions and establish hypotheses
  • Leadership-level ability to work cross-functionally with product teams and engineers to create real products (influencing partners, making difficult trade-offs, making each other better, communicating decisions)
  • Expert storytelling (communicating an idea with both clarity and influence) * Advanced understanding of UX laws (e.g.,
  • Intermediate understanding of layout, typography, and color
  • Experience working with design systems
  • Expert understanding of UX architecture and product flows
  • Expert interaction design skills (cognitive, IA, wireframes, varying fidelity mocks, etc.) * In-depth experience testing design work at critical junctures to validate (or invalidate) design decisions and pivot accordingly * Advanced or better inclusive design skills (assistive tech, contrast ratios, color blind, Fitts law/motor ability, etc.)
  • Ability to prototype ideas (Figma, Principle, ProtoPie, etc.)
  • Advanced execution (sticking to commitments, delivering to dates, moving quickly without rushing, etc)
  • Be curious, open, positive, collaborative, and empathetic
  • Think like an owner - scrappy, proactive, organized, and detailed * Current and up-to-date online portfolio
Base Range: $129,100 - 167, 090 + Bonus Eligible
