Summary: Provide leadership and direction to the growth and development of Girl Scouting within the Council’s jurisdiction. Oversees and is responsible for financial and accounting operations of the council and serves in partnership and shared leadership of the organization with the senior leadership team. In alliance with the Co-Chief Executive Officers, this position will contribute to the overall management of the Council through allocation and management of resources to support delivery of the Girl Scout program to all girls.

Supervision: The Chief Financial Officer oversees all finance and business service staff.

Support: This position is a member of the senior leadership team, council strategy refresh team and reports to the co-CEOs.

FLSA Status: Regular, full-time, exempt

Broad Accountabilities

  • The CFO is responsible for the utilization and conservation of the organization’s resources (Finance, Investments, and Insurance) to support the achievement of ambitious program and leadership development plans for the girl and adult members of the council. In shared leadership with the Co- CEOs, the CFO ensures resource utilization reflects and facilitates achievement of the corporate goals established by the board of directors.
  • The CFO will provide shared leadership, collaborative management, and a learning environment in planning, organizing, and evaluating the work of the council in achieving the Mission and in the financial strategic direction and financial decisions of the organization.
  • The CFO manages the development of the organization’s forecasts and budgets and administers and monitors operating plans and budgets. The CFO contributes to overall policy development and risk management processes of the council.
  • The CFO is responsible for maintaining budgetary control of the finances of the council and for seeing that no obligations are incurred in the name of the council except for the purpose of the council and pursuant to proper authorization. The CFO manages the accounts and all financial records and prepares and issues the financial statements and reports.
  • The CFO manages the staff and activities of finance and business services departments to ensure that the day-to-day operations proceed efficiently with effective financial and accounting systems controls and standards in place.
  • The CFO is responsible to remain current on federal, state, and local legal requirements regarding financial, audit, tax and liability issues that impact nonprofit corporations as well as oversee compliance of these requirement by the council including the annual audit.
  • The CFO provides staff support to the Finance Committee, the Investment Committee, the Audit Committee, and other Board Committees as assigned.

Required Education and Experience:

  • A minimum of ten years’ comparable, executive-level experience is required, with demonstrated success in financial and business leadership. Experience in an environment with significant property and investments preferred.
  • Strong academic training in accounting, finance, and management. An MBA or Masters’ degree is preferred.
  • Must have demonstrable experience and be aligned with Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) values, culturally sensitive, and effectively convey the Council's message among diverse groups.
  • Hold a current CPA license in Arizona preferred.
  • Experience in a 501(c) 3 a plus.
  • Belief in the mission and values of Girl Scouting, willingness to subscribe to the principles expressed in the Promise and Law, and awareness of the needs of girls in our pluralistic society. Willing to be a member of Girl Scouts.
  • Prior exposure non-profit organizations, such as to Girl Scouting or other youth-serving organizations with a willingness to learn the Girl Scout program.
  • Facilitation and conflict resolution skills required.
  • A commitment and the demonstrated ability to be a leader in a culture of team accountability and achievement (including being personally accountable to a team).
  • Ability to demonstrate the willingness and capacity to work in a shared leadership capacity and within a learning organization.
  • Ability to work in a continually changing/evolving environment.

Physical Demands:

  • Physical ability to lift 25 pounds.
  • Ability to travel, a car, insurance, and a valid driver’s license.
