Salary: $60,000-$85,000 ($62,500-$87,500 fluent English/Spanish speakers)

Title: Donor Engagement Supervisor or Manager

Hours: 40 hours/week (Full-time, exempt, in-office with minimal work from home)

Schedule: M-F 9-5 with some flexibility for your scheduling needs. We require occasional flexibility for early evening program support as needed. 3-5 events annually require weekend work; will adjust schedule accordingly.

Hiring Salary Range: $60,000-$85,000 ($62,500-$87,500 fluent English/Spanish speakers) Depending on experience level coming in.

Our fundraising strategy is directly linked to our mission and vision. This position is ideal for someone who is a highly effective, strategic and social who wants to contribute to the fiscal growth of an organization by stewarding a diverse community of donors and advocates. 


This person would ideally have ties to our community with a commitment to grow with us. Ultimately, within the first year or two, the right candidate would be given increased responsibility and compensation, including direct supervisory experience and involvement on the management team as a strategic leader. 


The First Year in this role: 

  1. Onboard to history, strategy, programs, workplace culture, and our community at large
  2. Learn about the development department through a community-centric lens & how it collaborates with our marketing & communications, strategic, and programmatic departments of THC
  3. Manage a portfolio of 200+ major donors
  4. Develop strategies for planned giving, volunteer stewardship, new and lapsed donors
  5. Explore improved systems integrations for our donor and volunteer databases
  6. Transition The Hunger Coalition to a new payment processor
  7. Support at least one annual mailing campaign including guiding strategy, creating mailing lists, coordinating with mailhouse, managing budget, etc. 
  8. Co-Lead at least one fundraising event


Job Summary 

The Donor Engagement Supervisor/Manager (DES/M) plays an integral role in The Hunger Coalition’s (THC) fundraising team. The DES/M works closely with the Director of Philanthropy and team to manage and develop fundraising activities for THC. The DES/M will lead a major gifts portfolio, provide strategic direction and stewardship for all community-centric fundraising efforts, coordinate fundraising events, acting as a liaison between programs and development teams to enhance the root cause impact of THC. In addition, this position may engage in program activities as needed. They work closely with and actively assist the Co-Executive Directors and other staff members to assure the smooth, efficient operation of The Hunger Coalition. They must be personable, flexible, and highly organized, with excellent computer, writing, administrative, and communication skills. They report directly to the Director of Philanthropy and will adhere to policies upheld by the Board of Directors as well as to the organization’s goals, objectives, and values.


THE IDEAL CANDIDATE:

  • Has 3+ years combined experience in one or more of the following areas: major gifts, fundraising, donor relations, marketing, sales, communications, event planning, project management, community building.
  • Is comfortable with a wide range of philanthropic work, including: solicitation and stewardship of individual, foundation, and corporate gifts; donor and potential donor cultivation; and research, grant writing, and special events.
  • Embraces technology and advocacy-led and innovative fundraising initiatives.
  • Is a strategic thinker with strong foresight, generating new ideas to improve practices and optimize systems, anticipating problems before they arise, and offering solutions.
  • Isn’t scared of public speaking, mingling, or small talk – but instead sees this as an opportunity to tell our story and build community.
  • Portrays effective, diplomatic, and clear communication style and use of dignified storytelling to convey the impact of THC and inspire others to engage in our work.
  • Has exceptional project management and people management skills.
  • Has Bloomerang or other donor database experience including the construction and production of reports, tracking of major gifts and prospects, and all other aspects of managing, populating, and maintaining databases
  • Is able to remain motivated under pressure, with strong independent problem solving skills.
  • Maintains a growth mindset and approaches new people and situations with curiosity. 
  • Has bilingual (Spanish/English) communication skills.
  • Works well with persons of varied sexual preference, racial, ethnic, gender identity, cultural, socioeconomic backgrounds, and with individuals who are differently-abled.
  • Has personal experience with food insecurity or a commitment to social justice and/or community service through previous employment and/or volunteer experience.
  • Is willing to embrace and work to improve a culture of diversity, equity and inclusion, which is central to the work we do.


DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead multiple digital and mailing campaigns in collaboration with Social Change Communications Manager & Director of Philanthropy.
  • Develop strategies for planned giving, volunteer stewardship, new and lapsed donors.
  • Maintain data integrity with the ability to generate quarterly reports for team pipeline meetings.
  • Develop the organization’s fundraising strategy and policies alongside the Director of Philanthropy, identifying gaps in the fundraising program, improving the diversity of revenue streams and aligning the approach to the organization’s mission, vision, and values.
  • Create opportunities for internal and external audiences to build awareness of issues relating to poverty, social justice, and food insecurity, such as sharing external reports, Instagram lives with experts, etc. 
  • Build and manage a volunteer community fundraising committee alongside Director of Philanthropy.
  • Lead at least one major fundraising event and multiple small gatherings per year.
  • Keep up-to-date on current fundraising programs, practices and procedures used in the nonprofit sector.
  • Build and maintain relationships with major donors of all types, develop strategies for solicitation, and solicit or coordinate the solicitation by other affiliate staff, board or volunteers, as appropriate.
  • If coming in at the Manager level, this position will be expected to join the Manager's team, taking on responsibilities and accountability to the organization and eventually directly supervising staff.

We have a minimal focus on bi-annual or annual evaluations. Staff have access to a $250-$500 annual professional development stipend to support development.
