Summary/Objective
This position will assist the Quality Manager with customers, suppliers, management, and UAW employees to develop and manage the quality management system, IATF certification, quality department, and metrology lab. The objective is to assist manufacturing in providing the highest quality, least cost products for our customers by assisting the quality workforce and assuring compliance to established quality procedures.
About the Role
In this role the Assistant Quality Manager will be part of multifunctional teams trying to improve processes. They will be the secondary customer quality contact and responsible to collaborate with other HDT facilities to develop best practices regarding quality.
Essential functions in the role include:
- Assist the Quality Manager in all aspects of the quality department
- Directing the activities of quality department members
- Perform evaluations of product and product quality data to ensure product compliance
- Investigate customer concerns and participate as a team member to develop and implement corrective/preventative action
- Monitor and develop performance indicators related to quality
- Participate as a team member/leader in internal audits
- Participate as a team member for new job feasibility, contract review, review and approval of new or revised PFMEA and control plans
- Participate as a team member with customer or internal members on new job launch reviews
- Conduct proactive customer visits to various facilities
- Develop and maintain a strong quality team
- Ensure customer specific requirements are completed as required
- 24-hour contact for quality issues
- Train employees effectively following addition/update to process
Leadership and Management Competencies
- Able to work effectively on their own (self-starter)
- Able to parse data to identify weaknesses and generate projects to provide a solution
- Able to create, and /or communicate corrective action reports, budgets, capital projects, and new processes
Key Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science Degree and 2+ years of relevant work experience or 5+ years of equivalent work experience
- Strong communication skills
- Strong Microsoft office skills
- Strong data analysis skills
Technical Qualifications
- IATF experience (Auditor/Lead auditor experience preferred)
- Working knowledge of GD&T, SPC, APQP
- Experience in inspection layout, supervising small groups, gage use and calibration
- Lean Six sigma certification preferred
Physical demands:
- Ability to walk unassisted in a manufacturing environment
- Ability to work extended hours as needed
Travel required: <20%
