Wardrobe Supervisor

Barrington Stage Company, an award-winning professional theatre company located in the heart of the Berkshires, is seeking a Wardrobe Supervisor to join our team in Pittsfield, MA. The Wardrobe Supervisor oversees the Wardrobe Team. This position oversees the cleaning, maintenance and organization of costumes through the dress rehearsal, performance and strike of each production on the Boyd-Quinson Stage and assists with other shows as needed. This position requires a driven and passionate professional with strong communication and organizational skills, a working knowledge of costume maintenance and cleaning, and excellent interpersonal and time management skills.

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate the cleaning, maintenance and organization of all costumes during the dress rehearsal and performance period
  • Create paperwork for each production, including costume change and dresser plots, preset lists, and understudy costume plots if needed
  • Determine location for quick change booths and fit them out once they are set up
  • Supervise the preparation of dressing rooms and costume check in sheets and review costumes prior to performances
  • Make sure costumes are preset onstage and backstage and retrieve costumes and return them to the correct dressing room for every performance
  • Supervise any minor alterations or repairs, and coordinate any major alterations or repairs with the Costume Shop Supervisor
  • Coordinate the maintenance of costumes during the performance period, such as laundry, ironing, shoe polishing, dry cleaning, repairs and wig maintenance
  • Ensure costumes are properly hung-up, sprayed down and put away at the end of each rehearsal or performance
  • Supervise the Wardrobe Technicians during dress rehearsals and performance periods
  • Choreograph quick changes as needed
  • Supervise the costume strike, including laundry, dry cleaning, rental returns and restocking of costumes
  • Keep the wardrobe room and quick change booths clean and free of debris
  • Coordinate with the Costume Shop Supervisor to cover tech rehearsals, notes sessions, production meetings and previews as needed


Skills:

  • Strong leadership, communication and organizational skills
  • Strong interpersonal and time management skills
  • Experience in costume construction and maintenance
  • Knowledge and experience in laundry, fabric cleaning techniques and stain removal
  • Experience with wig application and pinning
  • Ability to clean and maintain the styles of wigs and hair pieces
  • Knowledge of costume and fashion history useful
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office, Google Suite, and Adobe Acrobat


This position reports to the Costume Shop Supervisor. It is a full-time, seasonal position.
Contract: 5/20/2024 through 9/16/2024
Salary is $850 per week, with housing included.
